Hey there, admins, tech support, experts, and everyone else out there!
I’m starting a new thread here because, honestly, I have no clue if something similar already exists. I didn't really have the chance to hunt through the archives since the whole forum has been down for maintenance all day. Now that I finally managed to log back in, I figured I’d just type this out as fast as possible before you guys decide to take the site offline again for another round of repairs.☕

Seriously though, this is getting ridiculous. I mean, come on, people—you guys seem to have at least three maintenance sessions every single week. And don't try to tell us they're just "quick fixes," because we all know that's not true. Plus, why is this happening during peak hours?!!!!😠 🙂 Why can't those famous technicians of yours just pull a night shift and get the work done while everyone is asleep? And if you're going to brag about being the biggest forum in America, I'd think you could manage to avoid this kind of downtime (so OFTEN). Your marketing claims that over 120 skilled and competent moderators from across the country and around the world actively guide and manage discussions—so it makes me wonder, what exactly are those 120 "experts" doing?

To be honest, the excuses are starting to grate on my nerves. I wouldn't mind if you did this a couple of times a month, but several times a week is just a bit much. Thanks a lot! ☕ 🙂

They're cutting costs on the server, for crying out loud—it's a recession...🙂

We're just waiting for this place to actually function 😁

And yeah, we're just as pissed off as you are. 😠

But the mods aren't the ones who can fix this mess.

The thing is, the moderators aren't actually the ones who have any power to fix this specific issue.

Maaah, I was honestly so worked up I didn't even know who else to vent to 😁 😉

We should probably implement some sort of annual membership fee, $33 just so we can afford to lease or buy a top-tier server.

Why don't you just step outside for a bit? Look how nice the sunshine is😛

Well, I was actually out for four hours and they were still out there grilling over it😛
...plus, it's not even really sunny here, and honestly, I'm not in the mood to wander through this fog...
I'd much rather just stay in and iron🙂

Next time around, we’re all going to be tossing stuff in here to get ironed out
🙂
By the time you finally wrap this up, the forum will probably have evolved to the point where we're all just sitting around like 3D avatars in some virtual lounge, having actual face-to-face conversations instead of typing

Honestly, if that ever happened, I’d actually love to see someone try to hand me a ban—especially if they did it without any real justification.😍

Hey guys, this forum is getting pretty massive, so I’ve figured it’s way easier to just chip away at backups a little bit every day rather than trying to tackle one giant monster once a month. That would take forever. Honestly, looking at how things are running, it feels like vBulletin can barely handle the load—it's basically just a brand name you pay a premium for without much to show for it. And I don't really get why anyone would bother with membership fees when you could just run a few smart ads and afford a server that handles twice this much traffic, plus an extra one just for backups...

Honestly, vBulletin can barely handle this, if you ask me. It's basically just a brand name people pay way too much for... vBulletin is actually decent software for this stuff, and honestly, $180 is a joke for a serious, high-traffic forum like this—definitely not a huge expense.
Second, vBulletin handles big forums just fine; users shouldn't even notice a backup happening, especially around 10 AM.
Third, when the server goes down, an automatic message pops up saying it's under maintenance so people don't freak out.
Fourth, there've been two messed-up ads on this forum for a month straight that nobody's fixed. That's a clear sign of zero care, showing that the "service" issues aren't about technical glitches, but just pure laziness.
Fifth, the server for this site is funded by just a few days of ads for the whole year, so I highly doubt that's the issue.

Oh yeah, this drama with this forum has been going on for years. I guess we'll just have to get used to this mess.

Look, getting banned for no reason is one thing when you have a grace period, but a moderator handing out bans without cause? That’s just bad business. They should be paying penalties for that.

So we're gonna prove how clueless he is over in the Ban Corner?

One moderator from one PDF, an admin, a supermod, one user picked from that same PDF, and then someone else chosen by some random method.

There might be a pattern in there somewhere.

Look, given the domain and the way ads are swarming in like locusts, this forum should be raking in serious cash. A decent chunk of that should definitely be set aside just to keep the lights on, but honestly... thinking about it and actually making it happen are two very different things. ☕

I mean, it's fine, let them run their backups and whatever else, just please don't do it between 8 AM and 2 PM.☕

Second off, vBulletin can handle tons of large forums without breaking a sweat, and users shouldn't even notice the backups, especially not at 10 in the morning.Thirdly, whenever the server goes down, a message pops up automatically saying there's brief maintenance so people don't freak out.
Fourth, there have been two broken ads on this forum that haven't been fixed for a month now, which clearly shows a total lack of care. It suggests these "services" aren't failing because they're working too hard, but because they aren't being managed at all.
Fifth, the server for this forum is funded by just a few days of advertising for the whole year, so I really doubt that's the issue.

Oh, and this whole situation with this forum has been going on for years. Sadly, I guess we just have to get used to this "new normal."

👍
In the end, it pretty much comes down to the same thing whether you stay quiet and deal with it or speak up. Nobody's really giving us any credit anyway.🙄

dustypuma5 said:vBulletin is actually one of the better software options out there, which—by the way—costs about $180. For a serious, massive forum like this, that’s practically pocket change, not some huge investment.
Secondly, vBulletin handles heavy traffic on big forums without breaking a sweat; users shouldn't even notice a hiccup, especially during the morning rush around 10 AM.
Thirdly, when the server goes down, it automatically displays a maintenance message so people don't start panicking thinking everything is broken.
Fourth, we've had these two upside-down ads on this forum for a month now that nobody has bothered to fix. That's a clear sign of total neglect. It shows that these "service issues" aren't caused by technical glitches, but rather by just not doing the work.
Fifth, the server for this site is funded by just a few days' worth of ad revenue for the entire year, so I seriously doubt money is the issue here.

Oh, and honestly? This whole drama surrounding this forum has been dragging on for years. Sadly, I guess we'll just have to get used to this new normal.

vBulletin isn't any better than something like SMF... I've messed around with vBulletin, MyBB, phpBB, SMF, and plenty of others... In my experience, SMF is the winner. vBulletin is just a hyped-up name.😉
