The rules PDF says this about Internet

Are you kidding me?

What kind of rule is that?
On this board, you can trash politicians, their policies, the economy, Real Madrid, flowers, authors, religion, vegetarians, Lino Červar, even guys with screw-drive drills...

...but apparently, we can't talk shit about our damn ISP?🙄

And what the hell does that even mean anyway?
you have the right to express your opinion, but please keep it civil and respectful

Whatever my internet provider does to me isn't "civil" or even normal... besides, who gets to decide what counts as being civil?

The ban isn't the issue, it's the reasoning behind it...

Why follow these dead subforum rules?

I actually got banned for this post earlier:

I couldn't help but notice that the boxed message seems a bit more vulgar than the others in this thread.

Look at what they're trying to pull here. My question was simple: why is it against the rules to trash a garbage internet provider, yet it’s perfectly fine to talk shit about Lina Červar?

And honestly, what I wrote is just a tiny preview of what I’m gonna say once I call them out by name. These people go so far that my wife actually signed a statement today—just because she was rushing to work—saying I’ll ditch Comcast if these issues keep happening. When someone is willing to sink that low just to get things moving, forget about being polite... I'm gonna absolutely tear them apart...

Anyway, that's not even the point of this thread. I asked why insulting an ISP is banned. Why are these guys protected on this forum?

Slandering big corporations or government agencies isn't against the rules, but apparently, on this damn site, you can't insult these vultures...

He didn't even break any sub rules, so why'd he get a strike? ☕

granitefox16 said:Besides, who actually gets to decide what falls within the boundaries of culture?

Moderators.

granitefox16 said:What's with these useless subforum rules?

Each subforum has the right to establish its own set of additional rules. By posting in a specific section, you are agreeing to abide by those rules. This also means you accept any penalties resulting from violating them.

People can talk all the trash they want on the other subforums, but that kind of disrespect isn't welcome here in the Internet section.

blueridge32 said:He didn't even break any of the PDF rules, yet he still got a penalty. ☕

The moderator made their call. If anyone has an issue with it, take it up with management. If. If they decide to go a different way, that card is getting pulled.

granitefox16 said:Why on earth are insults against internet service providers banned? Why does this forum grant them such ridiculous protection from criticism?

We want to maintain a certain level of decency and decorum on this subforum. You have every right to comment and you certainly have the right to be critical, but you don't have the right to be abusive.

Who exactly did he insult—the corporation? Seriously, let's grow up and stop making up these ridiculous rules. There is a massive difference between punishing someone for using "unacceptable language" and punishing them just because they criticized a company. Oh, excuse me, he insulted a massive corporation... better ban him from the site immediately then. 🙄

He wasn't penalized for insulting the company, he was penalized because he broke the subforum rules.

If anyone has an issue with the regulations, there is a thread for rule suggestions. And let me say this again: there have been multiple instances of this. The moderators aren't all-powerful. Here is the list of admins, so feel free to complain if you want. If a reason is actually legitimate, I don't see why an admin wouldn't grant an appeal.

@ granitefox16 - If there's an issue with how the rules are being applied, the Admins will step in. They'll fix those two lines in the guidelines and clear your warning.

As for everyone else, please stop derailing this thread just because you have nothing better to do.

Nicole Nelson77 said:A Member of the European Parliament once hit me with 35 points for "subforum rule violations" on this exact same thread. He was so certain of himself, even though the post was clearly marked as "private."

That Member of the European Parliament didn't give you 35 points on this exact same thread and the post isn't hidden at all.

If you feel like you've been treated unfairly, go ahead and report it here.

Jacob Foster11 said:This is just a moderator's review. Look, I’m not out here claiming that the mods are infallible. They make mistakes too... after all, they’re only human.

None of us regular folks seem to think that moderators are actual human beings who are allowed to make mistakes...
The real issue here is pure vanity... it's that refusal to own up to our own weaknesses, and that stubbornness that stops us from actually wanting to fix our mistakes.

The arrogance and sheer ego displayed by the moderators, combined with a total lack of basic interpersonal skills, are massive issues on this forum...

That's exactly why there are multiple instances in place, you know... like having several administrators on hand to manage things.

They exist, I suppose... but they don't actually do anything.

This whole "job" thing is basically unpaid labor. No paycheck, no social security, no retirement benefits... just a total lack of support. And now I see some Nicole Nelson77 over there complaining about all the administrative headaches... honestly... ☕

"Ugh, just look at that username... honestly, it’s probably some bottom-feeder. I can't even be bothered to try and explain things to them... after all, I'm the one who actually wrote the rules..." 🙄

Jacob Foster11 said:Mods.

The mod decided otherwise. If anyone’s got a problem with it, take it up with the higher-ups. If they decide differently, the ban gets lifted.

It's because this sub wants to maintain a certain level of class and etiquette. You have every right to comment or give negative feedback, but you don't have the right to be abusive.

I live for these arrogant outbursts, always such a blast on this forum.

Give me a break, claiming "the internet" is trying to maintain some standard of etiquette on this specific PDF.
Like, on the actual internet, you can trash any institution you want, but on this PDF, you can't talk smack about an ISP because we're all about that "class." Ridiculous.🙏
Look, I said the warning isn't the issue, and I couldn't care less if it gets removed. I'm just pointing out how stupid this rule is...

So why don't you implement a rule against swearing if you're so obsessed with etiquette? Or does "etiquette" only matter when we're talking about service providers?
Laura Evans3 said:@ granitefox16 - If there's something wrong with the rules, the Admins will step in, fix those lines, and your warning will be wiped.

Did I ever say I was complaining about the warning?
I linked both the sub rules and my own post, and there's zero dispute that you gave me the warning based on the rules—I'm complaining about the rules you're hiding behind.

What kind of rule is that even?
Banning people from trashing an ISP? Who came up with that brilliant idea...

Read my posts in this thread, there's maybe three or four, and I haven't trashed AT&T once. Actually, I even praised them before.
Now they're acting like total lowlifes and I just shared that with everyone. Whatever part of my post was "vulgar" isn't bannable on any other part of the forum, only in your little corner...

If this forum has rules, read them and follow them. Period.

Yeah, I did. But what am I supposed to do about it now?

I broke a rule, I got flagged, end of story.
Am I whining about the penalty? No.

I'm just trying to point out that the rule itself is stupid and needs a rewrite.
It shouldn't be rocket science... just actually read the thread instead of skimming past it and jumping in with some half-baked attitude.
I'm talking about the part where people actually need to practice reading comprehension.

granitefox16 (No content provided to rewrite.)
What kind of rule is that even supposed to be?
Is it now illegal to trash our internet service provider? Who exactly came up with this brilliant idea?

granitefox16 said:I am trying to point out that this rule is idiotic and needs to be changed.

That rule predates every single moderator on the internet. I've said it a thousand times already. If you have an issue with it, take it up with the admins. Like I said, once more. Almost all the rules around here are just suggestions from the admins anyway.

And there is my question. Why am I forced to repeat everything I write an infinite number of times?

And who exactly is being addressed here? Is he talking to Sai baba?

It's addressed to everyone. Including the admins, for that matter. But the thing is, admins might not even see his thread. If he sends a PM to an admin, he's talking directly and exclusively to them.

Then what on earth is the point of this whole thing? Honestly, I think it’s your responsibility to pass this along to the admins. Besides, who even knows which admin is actually active anymore? It feels like they’re just firing shots in the dark, hoping to hit something by sheer luck

Unknown notified the admins. They sent over the link to this thread, the disputed post, and the rules. So, if they want to act, they will.

I'm a new moderator—been on the job less than a week. I don't quite know yet how the admins operate or what they actually monitor...

So here's my question. Why do I have to repeat everything I say like a broken record...

Who even asked you to write anything...

I posted this here, since this is the right subforum... Drop your thoughts, wishes, or whatever...
I think your rule is total garbage. I started this thread to actually discuss something, but you’ve been so "helpful" that you're just repeating the same useless crap for the third time now... nothing even worth arguing about.

What do I think about this rule? It stays exactly how it is... don't even think about touching it...
Actually, don't write anything...
Eric Hernandez said:Then why even bother having this thing here? I figured it was your job to pass this along to the admins. Besides, who even knows which admin is actually online anymore... you're basically just firing shots in the dark and hoping something sticks...

That’s the million-dollar question right there... I've been asking it forever. Every time you try to file a complaint on here, all you get is some smug moderator brushing you off or a lecture about how this is a private site and the owner calls all the shots...
Look, this is all well and good, but just shut this section of the forum down already. Seriously... I try to start a normal thread and this guy comes flying in for the third time acting like he’s some kind of genius... what a joke...

To be fair, Unknown actually gave me a normal response... which is basically a miracle around here...

Wait... Are you actually serious? You start your very first post being incredibly arrogant by flouting the subforum rules, and now I'm not allowed to address you as a moderator? And then people claim the moderators are the ones being arrogant? Every single one of your posts here has been condescending.

I'm asking the mods to lock this thread. There is nothing left to say. This is a waste of time.

It’s the same deal over at the legal offices. I mean, the wording might be slightly different, but even back home in the States, a post like that would definitely get flagged or sanctioned...
