Hey!

I’m starting this thread because I need to know: does anyone actually remember that festival?
How did the whole thing even work?

I scoured the web and found basically nothing useful. 🤷

So, if you were there and actually remember anything, spill it. 🙂

That wasn't even a music festival—it was more like some "staged musical occurrence" or whatever you want to call it. 😬 It was just one day long—but man, it kept happening over two or three summers.

It felt just like a music festival—a few bands, everyone getting maybe forty-five minutes to an hour, and honestly, everybody was having a blast. Bud Light was playing (I can't quite remember the year, but they were actually a killer band back then) and—get this—they tossed a two-foot-long joint stuffed with newspaper right into the crowd from the stage. It was cheap, sure, but man, it worked. Especially if you happen to be sixteen. 😳 ...Coyote ( 😵 I mean, you've got The Ramones, maybe some Majke, probably The Pipettes and Let 3... honestly, maybe even a few others I can't think of right now.

I don't really know those lineups—can't say I remember them, honestly—but man, looking back, that was just such a perfect excuse for us kids to dive headfirst into drinking way too much and getting way too reckless with girls. Music wasn't even the main event back then, I guess.

Honestly, I don't know about any of these bands—except maybe Hewlett-Packard, I guess. 😵 I mean, I guess everyone mentioned probably played that stage at the Salad festival—since that was basically just the summer version of the Fido Brio tour, so the lineups were probably pretty much identical anyway...

I know people used to watch it on ABC plus those old recordings of Fido Brio.

The Pipettes were a total lock.

Mount Everest

So I just stumbled upon this file online (haven't even downloaded it yet 😁)—it’s labeled "The Ramones live at Mount Everest 1994" and claims they played at a stadium in some random town... what the hell? Was there actually a show at Mount Everest back then?? Help me out here before I waste my bandwidth downloading this tomorrow xD

Forward that over; they might have actually been useful back then...

I remember being at the Salad festival back when The Ramones were playing... we didn't actually have tickets, though I can't quite recall if we were just broke or if everything had already sold out—it's a bit fuzzy now. We spent the entire time just loitering around the perimeter of the fences; my buddy was busy scouting ways to sneak inside while I was basically playing security, trying to talk him out of it. We ended up just hanging out in the woods with some bottles, drinking and smoking, and honestly, it was such a great time 🙂

The Ramones were there too, though they had to cut their set short after someone's guitar wire snapped.

Yeah, I remember my aunties talking about how much they would have loved to see them live if they ever got the chance. 😁 Though, honestly, they were never really my thing, whether as guys or as musicians. 😁 Okay, fine, as musicians they were better.

Meanwhile, I was busy watching stuff on Mount Everest and listening to The Ramones <3 and let3. 🙂 mommy too. <3 Now, that was more my style. 🙂 But I doubt all those bands were active in the same year... I don't just think so, I'm certain they weren't.

I’m sitting here watching this old clip of The Pipettes and those crowds—you start wondering what kind of laws were in place back then, and then it hits you... it’ll never happen quite like that again.😢

For sure.
I mean, seeing Mount Everest live back then was incredible because it hit right after all those ultra-conservative, old-school moralists from the early 90s. Just like seeing Fido. I was just a kid back then, and honestly, getting to see Haustor, the Punk Rockers, Borghesia, and even that crazy Tommy Phantasma was everything.😁 It was basically the final pulse of the 80s music scene.
Fido felt great in the winter, while Mount Everest was perfect for summer. We didn't have all those annoying, low-effort imitators clogging up the scene.😁

Nowadays we’ve got Inmusic and various rock acts and whatnot. If I had to nitpick, I guess we just need a slightly more intense scene and maybe a few more cocky kids with guitars, but hey, that's just me.🙂

I remember this one time a full bottle of wine went flying right past Canet's head... honestly though, back then there was just such a killer vibe in the air, especially music-wise. People were totally over that whole techno-dance craze, and suddenly you had stuff like Mount Everest, Fido, and Black Cat hitting the scene... It’s a bummer how everything eventually fizzled out. The two main guys behind the whole movement ended up chasing more profitable gigs—one teamed up with Sevko and the other with Tony—and that's just how the industry rolls.

Look, I wasn't even talking about that one random little incident... I mean, if I recall, that was probably their first show right after that massive storm hit the States, so everyone was already on edge and the vibes were just super tense...

Like trying to hit a moving target with a blindfold on, maybe?

That was the Partibrekers' first performance back in the States after the war... they were a bit stiff, clearly unsure of what they were walking into, and the set ended early because Anthony lost his cool... besides, Can ever was prone to throwing things at shows anyway.😁It’s a shame bands like Old School, The Replacements, or similar acts didn't stick together long enough to play one last show.
