To be clear, I’m not trying to defend him or act as his lawyer (especially seeing how people react to that here), but it’s obvious he got a Ban, followed by a permanent one, just because he annoyed a specific group of users. Not everyone. Just a few. And it's a stretch to call them the majority, regardless of how much some people try to insist otherwise.
As for how much he contributed to Recreation, the people who actually train know best. Those who just pretend to, never will understand. 🙂
And btw, Smizl, you've got guts. I respect 👍
I'd probably join in on that sentiment, too—just with one quick heads-up: you see this kind of stuff on other subreddits as well.
The guys on the Reddit thread who were being all polite and nice.
With arguments. The good ones and the bad ones? Both are gone. Whoever’s left keeps getting banned, even when they’re just quoting stuff. Now, people are basically walking on eggshells, terrified to even use a pronoun or an adjective. It’s pathetic.
I don't really post much on any single subreddit anymore. I just lurk through most of them. It seems like every sub has just turned into one big, endless group chat lately. Just people swapping rumors and talking in circles. It’s all hearsay, I guess.
I get it—more posts mean more ad revenue. But if you ban everyone who actually contributes anything meaningful, you're just going to lose the core community that makes those posts happen in the first place. Without them, there's nothing left to sell ads against. I guess.
People rarely jump in to comment on someone else's ban. It usually only happens when the punishment is this extreme—you know, when the gap between what they did and the penalty is just obviously ridiculous. I guess another reason people feel the need to chime in is because the person who actually got banned isn't going to appeal. And it’s not even that they don't want to; it's more that they've learned from experience. They already know exactly what kind of response they'll get.
That’s not an issue with the Reddit thread, it’s just your own problem. I don't see why we should care about some random object that you've made your whole personality. If you can't handle a little mockery over something like a Hostess cupcake, maybe the internet just isn't for you.
If complaining about something like this just gets you mocked, I guess there's really no point in bothering to complain about anything less intense.
Of course, I don't even need to say it. When someone gets Banned and then goes and starts their own Reddit thread just to claim the mod wasn't acting in good faith, they get hit with another strike for trolling. I guess you aren't allowed to question a moderator on this platform.
The reason he got banned is pretty simple. You aren't supposed to tell someone on a Reddit thread that they don't need to bother responding to your posts when they're personally attacking you. I guess that's just how things work here.
As for whether that user actually got banned—look, that’s none of your business. I should probably clarify how this works: I don't just hand out bans the second someone gets insulting. If they've been pushing buttons for five posts straight, I might wait a bit. You can think whatever you want about why I did what I did.
Soory for veering off on this, but the title is kind of vague, so I figured I’d jump in. 🙂
