Just dropping a link isn't enough. You really need to write a little bit of context—even just a quick summary of what the page is actually talking about.
People should be able to jump right into the debate without having to click away from the forum to hunt for information.
The forum isn't here to serve as free advertising for random news sites or blogs.

So, what’s the point of this whole thread?
What is this thing even doing in Politics, and on the front page, no less? What’s the actual deal here? You can barely make sense of it from the opening post, other than just the question the OP asked.
The mod is actually jumping into the debate, so I guess he’s cool with it? Or are we looking at some double standards here?

I don't get what you're struggling to grasp, northerntiger.
Honestly, this was the first time anyone’s ever actually badgered me about bringing an original Social Security card, and frankly, I haven't heard a single soul mention needing it before, so I'm sitting here wondering what point they're trying to make or what exactly they think they're proving by being so difficult.

So you think it makes sense to start this thread in Politics? You're telling me a question about tax IDs is actually a political issue?
By all the rules of the Politics section, this thread should be locked immediately. It’s totally unclear what we’re even supposed to be debating here, and I don't see any connection between your question and actual politics.
Since you're an admin and apparently don't see anything wrong with this, why did you even open it here? It really makes you wonder how qualified you are to be judging the rest of us.
Edit: If you'd put this in Legal, fine. Or maybe under Near Politics, but putting it right on the front page just shows you either don't know the rules or simply don't care about them.

The mods can just move her posts whenever they feel like it, regardless of the timing
I originally posted it in the politics section because if a topic is framed as being specifically targeted toward one group, I’d say you could reasonably call that a political issue

People should be able to join a conversation without having to jump through hoops clicking links away from the forum.
The forum isn't some free billboard for random websites.
Look, I didn't just drop a link. I wrote a summary right there in the title so people know exactly what they're looking at before they even click. It’s pretty obvious from the headline what the topic is and where it's headed.
All the rules were followed perfectly. There's zero legitimate reason to shut this thread down unless the moderator just has a personal vendetta.

It’s essentially a matter of politics, really. It all comes down to how US Federal Law regarding unique identification numbers is actually enforced—or ignored. They pitched it as this massive political win designed to finally get serious about fighting corruption at every level.
Whether this lands in the Legal section, Near Politics, or just right here, it doesn't much matter. If the goal is to clear up bureaucratic headaches or help people navigate the red tape, then the venue is secondary. At the end of the day, bureaucracy is just politics by another name.

That’s not even what you mentioned in your opening post. So how is it suddenly irrelevant where the topic was started? If everything is treated the same regardless of location, then what's the point of having sub-forums in the first place?

Basically, we expect those of you acting as officials—the ones drafting the rulebook—to actually follow them first. That's all.
I don't have much to add beyond what my colleague said. Personally, I wasn't sold on the opening either; a moderator should probably provide a bit more guidance to set the tone.
It’s frustrating when a promising topic turns into trolling, gets nuked, and then vanishes entirely.

We can keep beating around the bush all we want, but let's be real: the rules aren't being applied consistently. One topic gets strictly moderated while another flies under the radar, leaving us all wondering what the deal is. It feels like whatever Jupiter decides goes, and that's just not right. Personally, I put a ton of work into almost every post I make. I’m out here Googling stuff and overthinking my wording just to make sure I’m being clear and staying within the guidelines. So, it honestly stings when things get swept under the rug. It’s like driving without any lane lines—you never know where you actually stand.

Basically, if a thread starts off poorly but has potential, it turns into trolling, then gets banned, deleted, and before you know it, there's no trace the topic ever existed.
That’s the whole point of having a decent moderator. It shouldn't be about whether a mod "clicks" with someone personally. They just need to follow the rules with a level head. I followed the rules, but the moderator locked this thread for no reason and then had the nerve to give a condescending reply in that other post above.
So?
What now?
