When you think of sprinting, Jamaica is the first thing that comes to mind. But beyond Bolt and his fellow medalists, you have to account for all those Jamaican athletes who ended up winning gold under different flags—most often representing the United States. There’s just something in the air over there.

I was sitting there tonight watching the women's 5000m, and it honestly took me back to those days when Khalid Skah would pull off those massive upsets against runners who were technically "better" than him. My theory? It’s because every single one of these athletes spends an absurd amount of time training those final bursts. You’ve got one runner who feels invincible in the last 78 meters, another who thinks they own the last 129m, and a third who believes their strength lies in that final 320m stretch. They all walk away from training convinced that *their* specific distance is the one that's going to break the field...
