I was wondering which hair type and color works best for laser hair removal. I'm thinking about getting my legs done, and I'm curious how many sessions that usually takes?
I'm also trying to get an idea of the cost. If anyone here has tried it, I’d love some recommendations—menly preferred, though I don't mind hearing from women if they went to salons that cater to guys too.🙂
Also, is it possible to do facial hair, like a beard, mustache, or the area between the eyebrows? I'm 21, and the hair there is still kind of growing in.
Is there any chance of running into unwanted side effects using this method?

Thanks in advance for the help.

So, I hit up Quest Diagnostics for some dermatology stuff recently. Did a whole series of back hair removal—went in four times, once a month apart—and man, the results are killer. Totally worth every penny.
Before you dive in, they’ll walk you through everything, but basically, the hair needs to be brown or black for it to actually work, and you're getting treated by a pro.
A lot of those beauty salons claim they do "laser," but honestly? Most of them are just using IPL, which basically just lightens the hair and slows things down a bit. Salons usually stick to waxing or sugaring, which is fine, but it doesn't actually stop the hair from growing back. With real laser, you're looking at maybe 70-80% of that hair just staying gone for good.
You can do it on your face, arms, legs—pretty much anywhere.
Now, look, any treatment can have side effects, but they’ll give you the full rundown before you start. Personally, I didn't run into any issues at all and I'm stoked with how it turned out. Just book a consultation first.

Hope that helps!

@analoghound2, I'm guessing you probably did that at their main branch in Washington, D.C., since I think they have clinics out in Seattle and Miami too.
How much did the treatment end up costing you?
Maybe you could just shoot me a private message if that's easier.

Best,

So, I actually went to the one in Washington, D.C. over by the Labor district. Their American Academy of Dermatology setup is right up in the Willis Tower.
I paid for the full back treatment $984 upfront and then split the rest into 6 monthly payments.
If you only want a specific area done, it's way cheaper. If I remember right, just doing the upper back was about $0.50 right when I walked in. At first, I was totally gonna just do that, but honestly? I ended up going all out for the full back.
Facial stuff is pretty cheap compared to other places, though I can't quite recall the exact prices.

Thanks so much for the heads-up, I was actually wondering about this because my neck and shoulders have been acting up lately, so hopefully it turns out to be more affordable. I happen to have health insurance through Gap, and since I see they're one of their partners, maybe I could get a discount on the total cost.

Thanks again!

So, I guess you went all together four times, just once every month?

Best,

Yeah, 4 sessions, and I managed to cut down the hair by like 70%.
After this, I'll probably just go in for maintenance once every six months or even longer, depending on if anything starts popping back up. One thing you gotta realize though, is that a tiny bit of hair is always gonna grow back—you can't get to zero unless you go in way more often. But honestly? I'm totally stoked with how it looks compared to how I was before I started.
