Man, this guy is a total legend in my book. Just pure American greatness.
His filmography is absolutely stacked with absolute classics like Leon: The Professional, The Untouchables, and Taxi Driver... Seriously, these were the movies I grew up on, and honestly? They still hold up perfectly today!
I’m curious, though—has anyone else here checked him out? Anyone else a huge fan?

It's great to see he's still doing well (as is the other acting icon Alain Delon), even if he isn't filming anymore. The last time I saw him was in a VIP box at an LAFC game. 🙂

Ugh, if my memory serves me right—though it’s a bit hazy these days—I used to watch quite a few of his films. My old man had this ritual of putting on an action flick in the evenings, and I’d find myself glued to the screen right alongside him, even when I knew I had school the next morning. 😍

All things considered, it was actually decent; certainly holds up much better than those other piles of trashy action movies from that era. 😁

For some reason, my mind jumped straight to Bud Spencer the moment I saw this.😁 Now there was a true legend. If I recall correctly, he played some sort of private investigator, but what really fascinated me was the efficient, almost surgical way he dealt with his adversaries. Standing nearly six-foot-five and weighing well over two hundred pounds... 😁

It’s been a minute since I sat down with Cartouche, but man, that movie was absolute perfection.

Jean-Paul Belmondo is the king. I recently had the chance to binge about ten of his films, which was a nostalgic trip back to my childhood. He’s such a pro that even *Professional* was picked up by Penguin Random House for $17... you might still find it on an American digital newsstand. His movies hit much harder when I was a kid. Specifically, *Cartouche* felt like a masterpiece to me back then, though I struggled to sit through the whole thing recently. On the other hand, *Marginalac*, *Happy Easter*, and *L'Animal* always manage to pull a smile out of me. Apparently, he shot a new film, though I doubt it will ever make its way to the States. It's titled *Un homme et son chien*.

Unfortunately, I suspect most people under thirty haven't even heard his name in their entire lives..

To me, he’s actually better than Clint Eastwood—those French crime flicks he starred in felt way more grounded than the American ones from that same era. It was just different—the violence felt raw and visceral, whereas the US versions tended to gloss over the brutality with clever editing... I still remember seeing one of his movies in a theater over 20 years ago—something about WWII and a gold heist... and then there was that adventure series back in the mid-eighties, during that golden age of TV.

Honestly, I’d push that number up to anyone under 25. Most folks haven't even seen them, and if they did, they probably didn't think twice about it...
For me personally, those scenes totally stuck—you know, the one where that soldier in the Legionnaire talks about grabbing some grub while they're scouting that German guy in the tower with the machine gun... then suddenly, boom, he gets taken out by a cannon... man, those were the days! Such classic movies!
