Hey everyone.
About three days ago, I woke up with this disgusting taste in my mouth. Every time I try to eat or even just drink water, that nasty flavor comes right back. It’s honestly revolting, almost like something died in there or something. :S
I’ve been brushing my teeth like crazy, but nothing is working to get rid of it.
I don't have any other symptoms—no stomach issues or anything else—but I can't eat because the mere thought of that taste makes me nauseous. 😢
Has anyone dealt with something similar? Any advice?

It’s something pregnant women deal with all the time... 😛
It could just as easily be caused by dental issues or even problems with the esophagus and stomach.

I’m definitely not pregnant, and my teeth are fine. 😁 🙂
If it were actually a stomach issue, would they just give me some pills and call it a day?
I'm honestly dreading going to the doctor.🙂

It could also be a result of losing weight.

Are you currently taking any medications?

Well, I suppose one really ought to consider the possibility of dental issues, like decayed teeth or abscesses... or perhaps you're dealing with a sore throat or strep infection?

Do you find that you experience any nausea when eating—for instance, if you finish a meal and get this lingering sensation that you haven't quite swallowed everything, or maybe even if you feel like you might actually throw up?

And how old are you, assuming this is related to the issue mentioned above?

I'm not taking anything.
And my teeth are fine; I just had a checkup at the dentist recently.
It’s not nausea. My sense of taste just suddenly went haywire. For example, water tastes fine, but the second I set the glass down, I get this disgusting aftertaste, like I just swallowed something revolting.
I'm 22.

My weight is steady.😁

Do you have bad breath? Honestly, you really need someone else to tell you that, because there’s no way you can accurately judge it yourself.

I suppose I really should go consult my primary care physician about it. Things like infections, abscesses, or even fistulas are known to cause those kinds of symptoms, but I guess it would just be foolish to sit here guessing.

I haven't yet... I'm just checking things at home because I have this nagging feeling that something is seriously wrong, which is pretty uncomfortable. If it doesn't clear up, I'll head to my doctor next week. Thanks. 😉

I know the feeling all too well. It’s happened to me more than once lately—take yesterday, for instance. I was just snacking on some Oreos, swallowed one down, and suddenly this nauseating sensation hits me right in the back of my throat, somewhere between my nose and my mouth, making me feel like I just swallowed something absolutely revolting. It’s even been happening when I’m just drinking juice; this weird, unsettling sensation has become a regular occurrence over the last couple of weeks.

Exactly! Haha, reading it back makes it sound hilarious 😂 but it’s a different story when you're actually living through it.
I’ve realized the taste reminds me of the stench from an uncleaned farm with horses, cows, and chickens—that specific combo would be the flavor profile.
It’s most likely nothing serious, maybe just some stomach issues or acid reflux acting up.
If this doesn't clear up by Friday, I'm heading to my doctor.

My old man dealt with the exact same thing. It’s an issue with the intestines—basically, these little pockets form up where food gets trapped and just... rots. That's where the stench comes from. That was his situation, though, so I can't say for sure if it's what you're dealing with. Could also be stomach or liver issues (and when the liver starts failing, that's a common symptom). Not trying to freak anyone out here, but seriously, get to a doctor ASAP because this isn't normal 🙂 peace and take care.

Thanks for the info... how did they end up fixing it for him? :S

It didn't totally fix him. He’s on meds, but it’s like an ongoing battle. Surgery might help, but honestly, that's a huge risk. Plus, he’s getting up there in age—older folks deal with gut issues all the time, though I doubt that's what's happening with you if you're still 😉. He spent his younger years drinking way too much and wrecking his liver... diet was trash, too. Basically, just a mess.
Don't freak out, but get to a doctor ASAP. Even if it turns out to be nothing, at least you'll stop worrying. 🙂

Haha, that exact cocktail of scents. Seriously though, if you end up at the doctor's office, just let me know what they say. I might actually have to go myself, because honestly, I’m feeling pretty self-conscious about this whole thing.

I saw my doctor this morning. She prescribed some Betadine gargle and told me to see if it works before coming back.
My throat started acting up two days ago, though I'm not sure if there's a connection.
I doubt this will actually fix anything. If you decide to head to the clinic, let me know what the diagnosis is.

Man, I’ve been dealing with this stuffed-up nose for five days straight now, so honestly, I won't even be able to tell if anything smells once it finally clears up. If everything starts smelling like absolute garbage, then maybe I’ll actually consider seeing someone, though I’ve never really been the type to go running to a doctor for minor things.☕
