Best OCR software for extracting text from .jpg files?

So, if anyone happens to know of any software that could help me extract text from an image, please let me know or just drop a link here so everyone can see it. I tried extracting the text by converting it to a PDF, but that didn't work at all—since the JPG inside the PDF is still just an image, there isn't actually a text layer to grab. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated; I wouldn't mind even writing a little program myself, so if you could just point me toward some documentation or resources where I can learn more...

Basically, I'm looking for some OCR software or something similar. And honestly, if you can find me something that's free, I'll throw a massive BBQ for the whole neighborhood immediately...👍

placidcobra49- Adobe actually has this built-in feature specifically for pulling text straight from images—which is basically its whole reason for existing.
Looking at both programs now, I'm guessing Adobe is just the stripped-down, lightweight version of the two.

It's smaller and cheaper, I guess.
