After the success of M, "rules of the game" was an absolute train wreck. Every few minutes, the screening would grind to a halt because the subtitles were missing right during the most crucial scenes. And don't even get me started on how they somehow managed to butcher a nearly two-hour movie down to a mere 70 minutes. I honestly can't tell if we're watching some hyper-censored reel from 1939 or what, but it was a total disaster.

@I was there... : Do I personally dig "Plastic Jesus"? Absolutely. I'm not quite sure how much influence Alexander Petrovic had on this one, seeing as he was a protégé of Stojanovic, but the film is every bit as brilliant as something like "innocence without protection," which shares a similar aesthetic. To me, Jesus is actually a much better film than Zilnikov's "early work," if we're talking about the core ideas of the black waves. Because of so many different factors, the film remains powerful and incredibly watchable even today.

Every few minutes the movie would just cut out because the subtitles were missing—and it always happened during the most crucial scenes. Not to mention, they somehow managed to butcher a nearly two-hour film down to just seventy minutes. I don't know if they were playing some hyper-censored reel from 1939 or what, but it was a total disaster.

The print they had was just trashed; honestly, it was painful to sit through. If I didn't already own it on DVD, I would have stayed, but instead, I stormed out after thirty minutes like a madman.

"M" got all the praise for being a great movie, but even the presentation was a mess. It was rated R, and since there was only one R-rated projector available, we had to wait around for them to swap things out. That meant two separate breaks of maybe three minutes each. Plus, the subtitles were pretty hit-or-miss.

Supposedly everything will be fixed by today or tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Arthur Garcia59 said:The film reel arrived in absolute shambles; honestly, sitting through it was an exhausting ordeal.

While "M" received its fair share of critical acclaim as a film, the actual presentation was anything but successful. We were dealing with a 16mm print and there was only one single projector available, which meant we had to sit through those tedious transitions—two separate breaks of about two or three minutes each. To top it all off, the subtitles were somewhat subpar.

Pathetic.

Why bother organizing an event at all if you can't manage to execute it properly? 🙄

I caught a screening of "The Conformist" by the BFI today, and honestly? It was so incredible that I’m willing to forgive them for everything else up to this point!
