Posthumous sperm retrieval: How does it work?

Hey everyone,
I was reading this article recently about a widow who actually petitioned a court to allow her to retrieve her late husband's sperm so she could attempt to conceive later on.
Does anyone here happen to know how that legal process works or maybe stumbled upon a helpful link about it?

I remember seeing some article once claiming that he actually set up a trust fund for his wife before he passed away, specifically because they were both desperate to grow their family. They really wanted more kids, but then life hit him with a sudden illness and he was gone before they could make it happen.
But honestly, that’s all just noise to me... his kid wasn't even born until five years after he died. ☕

So I actually read that damn article...
The guy left frozen sperm just in case he ended up sterile...
And then he dies....

Anyway, they were planning on having a baby...
Now the wife's gone to court to get permission to use it.

From a medical standpoint, extracting sperm from a deceased individual is practically impossible. But even if they could pull it off, doing so would be a legal nightmare. It’s the same story when it comes to using stored samples from a sperm bank after someone passes away—unless that person left behind clear, written instructions explicitly granting their spouse or partner the right to use it.
