So, listen, this thing just popped up on my eye overnight:

image

What on earth could this be? Honestly, it doesn't hurt, and there isn't any itching or anything, though I did have this fleeting, ridiculous thought that maybe it was some kind of insect bite or something... anyway, I have my annual physical coming up soon, so I figured I'll just wait a few days and see if it clears up on its own....🤷

To me, that looks like a blood spot, probably from rubbing your eye too hard. Or maybe you just popped a tiny capillary.

I really need some help here!

I just noticed this red and purple spot on the outer corner of my left eyelid. It’s never happened to me before! Does anyone know what might be causing this? How long does something like this usually take to clear up, and what should my next steps be?

help... what am I looking at?🤷
it just popped up out of nowhere today... the skin changed color, starting out red, but now it's already turning almost blackish-purple😲... there aren't any bumps or anything else... is it possible I just had a really bad broken capillary? should I be worried?🤷

I haven't used any new skincare products, nothing bit me, and I definitely didn't hit myself against anything.

Hello,

The photo is a bit blurry, making a definitive diagnosis difficult, but it certainly looks like subconjunctival hemorrhage. Aside from a physical impact or perhaps a minor scratch or sting you might have missed, this can be triggered by something as simple as a heavy sneeze, coughing, straining, or even just rubbing your eye too hard...

If this is a one-time occurrence and you aren't seeing bruises elsewhere, there’s likely no reason to worry.

However, if these bruises become a pattern, or if you notice spontaneous bleeding in your skin or mucous membranes without any clear injury, it’s time to look deeper. You should also seek medical attention if you experience swelling, pain, vision changes, worsening symptoms, discharge, double vision, or floaters.

Since we can't be 100% certain of the exact cause—even if it appears non-threatening—I would suggest checking in with your primary care physician just to be safe.

Best regards. 😉

Two days ago, I noticed this dark purple bruise on my upper eyelid, right along the lash line. It started out about 4x3mm, but it’s been spreading steadily and is now closer to 10x3mm. There was no injury or accident; I just caught it in the mirror while getting ready. My eyelid and eye don't hurt, and there isn't any swelling or lumps—just a flat discoloration, almost like someone bumped me while I was applying makeup...

It’s been two days now. I didn't want to run to the doctor for what looks like a simple bruise—maybe a capillary just burst from stress or something. But I have to wonder if it could be something else. Can a bruise like this be a symptom of an underlying issue? I don't want to just sit here waiting for it to clear if there's something I should actually be doing... 🤷

I was prescribed Maxidex eye ointment to treat some redness on my upper eyelid. The patient information leaflet specifies applying it directly into the eye, yet my doctor instructed me to apply it only to the area of the lid where the inflammation is present. Does anyone happen to know which direction is actually correct...

Thanks for starting this thread, I was looking in the wrong place..

Anyway.. is anyone else noticing this pool expanding by a millimeter every single day? When does it actually stop?
And when will it finally clear up? I feel ridiculous scheduling an appointment with my doctor just because of some broken capillaries... 😢

Joshua Morris17 said:The doctor gave me some Maxidex eye ointment because the skin on my upper eyelid is all red and irritated. The instructions say to put it *in* the eye, but my doctor specifically told me to just rub it right onto the eyelid where the redness is. Anyone actually know which way I should go here?

I’d probably just do both, inside and out!😬
shouldn't matter much.🤣

Nothing should be necessary at all...🤣

I am well aware that nothing will happen; my point was regarding improved efficiency. It’s just one of those situations where one expert claims this and another claims that, leaving us stuck in a perpetual dilemma...

A few years back, I ended up with this little tear duct bump right in the corner of my eye...
I remember reading somewhere that those things can actually pop up from sneezing too hard,
and since my ragweed allergies are absolutely brutal and my sneezes are basically sonic booms,
/looking back at that time,/I figured that was definitely what did it.
It cleared up pretty fast and hasn't given me any more trouble since.

Here’s an update for anyone who decides to look for answers on a forum instead of calling their doctor next time:
The abscess cleared up on its own in about a week...😁
