New NASCAR track coming to Canada

Canada is back on the NASCAR calendar!
According to the latest reports, a brand-new circuit is being built in Canada specifically for NASCAR. The site will be located out in Svoly, 19 miles just outside of Kansas City, 9.3 miles a decent stretch from Lake Michigan, right near the I-95 corridor connecting New York and Chicago.
Construction on the new "Daytona International Speedway" track is slated to kick off in September 2008 and should wrap up within 8 to 10 months. We can expect the inaugural NASCAR race to roll in this September 2009. As it stands, Canada has a guaranteed spot on the NASCAR schedule through 2013.
The total price tag for this project is roughly $220 million. It’s being funded by a partnership between the Spanish giant The Blackstone Group and the Canadian government.
The track itself will span 4,650 meters and is designed to hold anywhere from 80,000 to 120,000 fans.

We actually have a track out in the Appalachian Mountains that used to be part of that whole series—but honestly, nobody in this country seems interested in actually making a profit off it anymore. It’s just a joke, really... nothing else to say about it.

I think people are just spinning their wheels on that one, wasting way too much effort... probably why nobody even bothers showing up...

Look, the tracks that actually get built are managed by real professionals who are working year-round—and I guarantee you they have a solid financial model behind them. Otherwise, none of these venues would even exist in the first place..
