I found the film to be quite excellent. It featured plenty of comedic beats, though I suppose it was the dialogue that truly stood out; it’s been a while since I’ve encountered a comedy that left such a lasting impression on me.
Partly, I think it was simply due to the R-rating, which seems to be becoming an increasingly rare sight in Hollywood these days. An R-rating arguably adds a whole new dimension to a film, and in this particular case, it seemed to facilitate a much sharper sense of humor. One gets the feeling the writers might have had a bit of an international flair to their style.
Personally, I’m inclined to believe that the MPAA and their whole rating system tend to stifle cinematic innovation.
Peggy and Frost managed to prove themselves once again in this production, at least in my estimation.
If I were to point out a single flaw, I might suggest the soundtrack was somewhat underwhelming. Perhaps they could have leaned more heavily into certain tracks during specific sequences.
