I'm skipping the acupuncture thing. I have zero interest in wasting money just to have someone poking my face with needles, and honestly, time is almost up anyway.😁
Today marks my sixth session, and it’s been 16 days since the paralysis startedπŸ™„ (between running from doctor to doctor, waiting on appointments, and dealing with holidays, the days just vanish...😳) ...but look, I can already move things pretty well. I'm just a tiny bit away from being totally back to normal. I still haven't figured out how to trigger the muscle for the bottom of my lip, and I can't really wrinkle my nose properly yet... but it's coming. It's such a relief seeing everything return to normal. I'm convinced all the exercises and electrical stim therapy actually did the trick!πŸ˜‰
Also, I absolutely hated that "Frank" nickname.🀣

Everything runs on fuel (or pretty much everything). Just don't go burning rubber on the highway trying to look cool...😁

Glad to hear things are moving in the right direction for you.πŸ‘

Alright, wrapping this thread up here. Maybe I can give someone some peace of mind by sharing my experience, just in case anyone else ends up hunting for info on this later.πŸ™„

Therapy is officially done! Thirteen days of treatmentβ€”honestly, it wasn't even that bad. Obviously, everything is subjective, like we've been debating here, and everyone reacts differently, but I’m actually glad I was the last one to start (since there were three of us dealing with the same issue) and the first one out the door.😁
A ton of exercise (yeah, I was grinding through reps for both guys and girls just to get it over withπŸ˜‚), plus singing, laughing, and talking... and boom, there are the resultsπŸ™‚ without ever having to lie around doing nothing.πŸ˜›

I definitely need to be careful and play it safe for a bit, but I'm getting back to my usual routine: skating, drinking, hitting the clubs (haha), and getting my scooter out of retirement after it's been sitting under a layer of dust.... so if I don't pop back into this thread, just know I turned out fine.🀣

Huge thanks to everyone for sharing your stories and advice; it really helps when you're actually going through it.πŸ˜‰

BIG SMILE FROM EAR TO EAR FOR EVERYONE!πŸ‘

Can someone please explain how facial nerve inflammation actually starts? What are the very first warning signs I should be looking for?

Facial numbness. Honestly, trying to have sex is a pretty good litmus testβ€”if things aren't working quite right, you'll know.😁

For me, the first sign was losing all taste on the left side of my tongue a few days before everything hit.😲 Then, just a couple of days later, I woke up with the left side of my face completely numb.

I’m running a bit behind on this thread...
I actually went through this twice myself. The first instance happened when I was twenty-two, and it honestly felt like it hit me out of nowhere in the middle of the night. It wasn't just one thing, either; I lost all sensation on the left side of my tongue, and then my entire left face started "freezing up," section by section. Does anyone else experience that creeping numbness? After a month of physical therapy and taking Medrol, everything eventually returned to normal, though it required an exhausting amount of facial exercisesβ€”constant grimacing and puffing my cheeks just to get things moving again. That first episode was a genuine shock to my system.
The second time occurred when I was twenty-eight, about three months after giving birth, right when my immune system had taken a massive hit. However, because I had experienced it before, I recognized those early warning signs immediately and managed to get ahead of the paralysis before it fully set in. There was hardly any visible impairment, perhaps just a slightly drooping eyelid and a slight sag at the corner of my mouth. Two weeks of treatment and I was back to my old self.
Thankfully, it hasn't happened since!
