So, here’s the deal...
Woke up this Saturday morning, went to splash some water on my face, and realized I couldn't move my right hand or fingers at all. Everything felt totally numb and sluggish.
Hopped in the car immediately, hit up an urgent care doc for a referral, and raced straight to neurology. The neurologist basically confirmed it was a 100% wrap: total radial nerve paralysis. Official diagnosis: Mononeuropathy of the right arm.
Then saw a physiatrist who pretty much agreed with the neuro doc. They put me on a regimen of B vitamins, IFT physical therapy, galvanization, and electrical stimulation for the radial nerve.
Side note: the night before this whole mess started, I woke up because I’d apparently slept on my arm. My entire arm was dead from shoulder to fingertips, but it wore off in a few minutes so I just went back to sleep. Told both the neurologist and the physiatrist, but they totally brushed it off. They kept grilling me about physical trauma or whatever. But honestly, what really killed me was when the therapist—literally two minutes into our "hand dorsiflexion" exercise—just goes, "Why did you sleep on your hand??"
After my quick interrogation, she just shrugged and said she'd seen cases like this pass quickly.
Now I'm wondering if anyone here has dealt with this. How long does recovery actually take? I'm currently out on medical leave from a job I actually love, and we all know how American bosses look at people taking time off.
Also: how much does Vitamin B complex actually help when you're trying to repair nerves?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks a ton.
