Oh, thank you so much, you're too kind...
Now, I find myself wondering about this particular matter:

I initially logged into http://www.medioteka.com/ and also http://www.bitsoup.org/ because I'll be getting my paycheck tomorrow...

So... when I search on Bitsoup for something like the Red Hot Chili Peppers—since they are a fairly well-known band—and the site only presents me with two search results, one having a single Seed and the other just a single seed...

My ratio currently stands at 0/0 since I haven't actually downloaded anything yet... I was curious if those search results and the number of Seeders might increase once the overall ratio on the site grows higher, or if that isn't how it works...

Now here's what I'm wondering:

I just signed up on http://www.medioteka.com/ and http://www.bitsoup.org/ since I'm getting my paycheck tomorrow...

So.. if I search Bitsoup for something like Red Hot Chili Peppers—you know, a pretty famous band—and it only shows two results, one with a single Seed and one with just one Seed...

My ratio is sitting at 0/0 because I haven't actually downloaded anything yet... Does the number of results or Seeders go up once my ratio gets higher, or what?

Good grief, talk about perfect timing.

Are you one of those people who won't jump in the pool until you've spent twenty minutes debating if the water is too cold, too warm, or just wet enough?

Answer to your question: Nope, nothing's gonna increase.

When you search for something, you get what's there—that's it. Period. That's why you need more than two trackers.

Tracker list (public and private)
http://www.zeropaid.com/links/bittorrent/

list of private trackers with open sign-ups
http://www.btracs.com/index.htm

You're overthinking this way too much—just try it, test stuff out. It’s honestly the easiest way to learn. You run into a snag—which usually isn't even a real problem—and then you stop and start asking questions.

IT'S JUST A RIDE

HERE COMES THE FIRST AND BIGGEST MISTAKE!!!!!! Whatever you do, DO NOT close your client immediately after finishing a download. Wondering why? If you kill the app, you're basically screwing over everyone else trying to grab that same file. How? Well, the second you start downloading, you've signed an INVISIBLE CONTRACT promising to SHARE everything you grab with the rest of the community. That sharing part is called Seed, and you become the Seeder.
Basically, you're obligated to GIVE BACK what you TOOK...

Obviously, not to us, but to the other people who want that movie or those tracks just as bad as you do. That leads to the next term you'll run into: RATIO. What even is that? RATIO is the balance between UZET and what you give... Downloaded vs. Uploaded... Leech vs. Seed!!! As long as you keep it at 1:1, you'll NEVER have any issues... you won't ever have to worry about a WARNING, let alone a BAN.

So, I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to torrents, so how do I actually share the stuff I download? Like, do I just leave the program running after the file finishes, or what? I don't really get it...
And how do I make sure my ratio stays high, and where can I check it?

Thanks..

man please, why would I give anything back to them? It took me like 3 or 4 days to finally grab it. I'm just here to leech, honestly.

Hey there!

I'll drop my issue here instead of starting a whole new thread..

Basically, I've been trying to grab a few torrents since yesterday, and the download speeds are absolutely abysmal—just 10-30kb/s. It used to hover around 100, and now that I've upgraded my broadband to over 200, I can't figure out why it's tanking like this.

(To be honest, I wasn't even aware of the rules regarding sharing, but usually, once I finish a movie, I just leave it running overnight so others can grab it...) Also, my upload is getting hammered right now (those folks downloading from me are pulling about 30-50kb/s, which is actually double my download speed...

😕 I'm using uTorrent.

Which torrent site are you using to grab the movie? It can actually make a huge difference depending on whether it's a public tracker or a private one...

I've been downloading from www.torrentz.com... I usually just pick whatever was uploaded most recently, typically something from Mininova or similar sites. Everything seemed fine until yesterday. I tried testing it out with a few different files just to see if it was a fluke, but it’s the same result today. Even with the most popular torrents, nothing works. I even switched over to using BitTorrent, but it's the exact same issue.

You just pulled something rare that barely even has any Seed

Seed 10-20 (2296)

Man, why am I getting such low speeds? It’s hovering right around 2,000...

I'm using an FXG torrent, which is usually one of the most reliable ones out there..

I tried downloading another one today and ran into the exact same issue. It's painfully slow. My speed test shows my connection is hitting about 600kb/s, and everything else downloads just fine—it’s just these torrents acting up..

Just send me the link. Honestly, if you’re going to grab it, I’d say hit up torrentspy.com, but make sure you track down an identical torrent over at isohunt.com first.

If it's nowhere to be found? Well, you've got no choice but to pull it from a rapidshare type deal.

Wouldn't this be a much simpler approach?

For anyone out there still struggling to navigate the chaotic world of torrenting, I suggest you give this a read.
