Where do you guys get your physical movies?

Sometimes I just grab some downloads, and I end up with stuff like this...

Taxi Driver (1976)
Miami Heat (1995)
Face Off (1997)

I tend to stick primarily to buying original copies, though I do own a DVD recorder, which allows me to capture anything actually worth watching when it airs on TV... I currently have about 500 of them in my collection, if I do say so myself.😁 😁

I rent new releases from the local video store just so I can actually hear that surround sound 제대로 🙂 though people say if you don't buy the stuff you love, you end up destroying the very things you care about 😁

As for the older classics they don't carry at the rental shop, I just grab them via BitTorrent and DVD Shrink...

I used to think I’d just rip DVDs from the rental place to build up a massive collection of my favorites... but honestly, on these high-res LCD TVs, you can see exactly how crappy a DVD looks when it's the original, let alone once it's been copied... so I just gave up on that whole idea...

I grab DivX just because—let's be real—it’s fast and doesn't kill my bandwidth, you know?
Then there's the DVD side of things... mostly because they're basically "vintage" at this point and I actually like having an actual menu to click through instead of just staring at a file name.
And obviously, I need the HD stuff if I actually want the picture to look decent for once.

I’ve got about 150 on > and maybe 200 on >. A few DIVX files too, plus a bunch of old TV recordings. Does anyone know how I can move those DIVX movies over to > without losing the subtitles?

I’ve got about 300 DivX movies sitting here—well, at least I think so, since my collection is getting pretty massive 😉—all downloaded as DVDRips, though I’ve probably only actually sat down and watched maybe half of them 😁

I mean, I’ll just go ahead and grab an actual DVD for my own collection for like five bucks—since renting one costs me four—so you tell me if that’s even worth it. : )

Right now, my hard drive is holding The Invasion, The Bourne Trilogy, Gone in 60 Seconds, Redline (still need to watch that), and Hitman...

Whatever I actually love makes it onto a disc; everything else goes straight in the trash. If I could just get all my borrowed movies back, my shelf would be full already...

Honestly, I don't see the point in even trying. You aren't going to magically upgrade a DivX file to actual DVD quality through a conversion process. Besides, the physical media itself feels somewhat redundant these days since most modern DVD players can handle DivX formats just fine without any extra effort.😁

As for me, I tend to acquire my films through various channels—picking them up at a local shop or renting from a video store. Everything I own is strictly DVD quality, because if I'm going to bother, I might as well prioritize high fidelity.

All I've got is LOTR 1
and Harry Potter.

I usually just head over to some guy's stall near a flea market in Canada to pick them up. He's selling them for a measly 3.1 miles and swears on his life they're legit.😁

Piracy is the only way to go. Watching those official releases just ruins the experience for me.🙂

Honestly, your best bet right now is hitting up the kiosks or grocery stores for DVDs. You can snag some decent titles for just 15-$6.75 bucks.

Pirate stalls, bootleg DVDs, video rental shops... plus the occasional genuine find.
