Nitrites in urine: what does it mean?

About six months ago, I dealt with an E. coli infection that wasn't properly managed...
A few months back, I started feeling lower back pain, but I didn't think much of it at the time. However, over the last week, the pain has become absolutely unbearable...
I went to see my OB-GYN thinking there was an issue with my reproductive health...
She sent me for a urinalysis, and it turns out I have nitrites in my urine. The doctor just told me this isn't super common and that it indicates a fairly severe infection! That was it. That was all she had to say to me...
Then she just dumped a bunch of antibiotics on me and called it a day.

I just need to know: how dangerous is this? What kind of consequences am I looking at if this isn't treated correctly?
I have to admit, I'm terrified. I don't know what's actually happening to my body, and it hurts...😢

Nitrates in urine are just an indirect sign that there’s inflammation—basically, bacteria are present. A round of antibiotics should clear things up.
If I were you, I’d get a urine culture and sensitivity test done to figure out exactly which "bug" we're dealing with and what actually kills it. But, if you've already started on antibiotics, there's no point in testing now because the results will just come back negative.
If you start feeling sharp pains during those bathroom trips, or if you get a fever with chills, nausea, or even vomiting along with more intense urinary issues, go see a doctor immediately.

My lower back is already killing me; I can't even bend over or walk properly without agony...
I went to see my doctor, and she didn't have a single thing to say about it...
