My wife’s recent urinalysis showed significantly elevated white blood cell counts. The lab results indicate +++ and 10^6.

Additionally, the report shows the presence of bacteria in her urine sample.

I am operating under the assumption that this indicates a bacterial infection, but I am curious about the standard medical protocols for treating such issues during pregnancy. (Outside of pregnancy, I assume antibiotics would be the standard approach).

I appreciate any insights you can provide!

It is precisely because she is pregnant that antibiotics are necessary to treat the infection. A penicillin or cephalosporin would likely be the best choice, as they seem to be the least harmful to the fetus.
If I am understanding correctly, a count of 10 to 6 bacteria should be sufficient indication for therapy.

Could you please clarify what "th" refers to in this context?😕

My apologies! 🙂
This is therapy, I suppose.

The question itself is quite straightforward, really; I’ve spent a fair amount of time scouring the various threads on this forum, yet I haven't encountered a single soul offering a concrete explanation for what might actually be causing this.

Everything else looking normal to you?

If it is, and your white cell count is under 5, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it...

If it is, and those white cells are sitting below 10, you’re almost certainly fine...

But if they're climbing north of 10, then you've got some kind of inflammation going on, likely viral or, more probably, bacterial...

I had an incredibly grueling delivery two months ago involving intense organ pressure, and I’m fairly certain I was experiencing kidney pain during the labor itself—though it was more of a generalized ache on both sides that I can't quite pin down now... About twenty days postpartum, this excruciating pain flared up on my left side; it was so debilitating that I needed injections just to be able to move or take a deep breath. When I went to the ER, the doctor suggested it might have been a kidney stone. It was painful to urinate, though there was barely any flow at all. I initially tried Nurofen, which did nothing, then moved on to Augmentin. That brought my white blood cell count down from 25-30 to about 18-20, but after two separate urine cultures came back completely sterile, I'm lost. Now, all 😕 feel are these intermittent, sharp stabs across my lower abdomen—sometimes on the left, sometimes on the right. Should I just let this go, or do I need to keep pushing for answers? I have no idea which direction to take. My doctor was almost certain it was a bacterial infection, but it clearly isn't. So, if it's not that... what else could it be?
