So... I've been sitting on this idea for quite a while now, thinking about getting a small stud piercing on my lower lip. I’ve pretty much exhausted the literature on the subject. I'm fully aware of the drill—finding a sterile studio, following the aftercare regimen, and keeping up with the creams once the initial healing phase settles in after about three weeks. But there is one thing I just cannot find any solid info on online... people keep insisting that a lip piercing carries some kind of cancer risk because of how it interacts with a specific nerve. They tell me this twenty times a day until I finally lost my cool. I told my family—my inner circle—that when they picked up cigarettes, they knew the cancer risk was there too. Thank God they didn't end up with it, but they’re still Hardcore Pusac smokers nonetheless. I want this piercing, and that's that.

To all the medical students and pro piercers out there... could you break it down for me in a few bullet points? How do I handle this the right way, and what specific things should I be looking for when I walk into a studio? I'd really rather not walk out with an unrequested gift like HIV.😍

P.S. I'm over 18, and despite everything I've read, that little voice of doubt is still nagging at me.👍

I’ve got a few piercings myself, and I made sure to go to a reputable studio every single time. The guy was incredibly thorough—disinfected his hands, wore medical gloves, and even unboxed the needles right in front of me just so I could see they were sterile. And get this, he wouldn't even let me step foot near the piercing or tattoo station without those ridiculous medical booties 🙂
Just a quick heads-up, though: you should be using Bepanthen cream for your tattoos, and Octenisept spray for the piercings

A minor correction: you apply Aquaphor to tattoos and use an antiseptic spray for piercings.

It looks quite tacky to me 🙂 ... especially on a woman. 😎

Just go get pierced and call it a day... find a legit studio and stop stressing over this nonsense. Has anyone ever actually heard of someone getting cancer from a piercing? I haven't. People tried to scare me too, but people just talk. When I went to get my eyebrow done, they were like: "You know if they hit a nerve, you could end up with a permanently closed eye..." Then when I went for my tongue, it was almost like: "Your tongue is gonna fall off..." Well, here I am, totally fine.

Thanks... everyone... I’m definitely going to get that done...@silverseal28 I actually know a girl who had to undergo surgery on her lip... because it turned out she was allergic to the material... and she had no idea at the time.

Luckily, those kinds of situations are super, super rare... great. But once they start messing with you, you'll probably just be sitting there wondering where else you can get a Piercing. 🙂
