So, I woke up this morning with this super swollen bump on my head and one eye that’s basically slammed shut 😲
Honestly, my eye was acting up all day yesterday too, just feeling really irritated

Does anyone have any idea what might be going on here? 😲

What could it be? 😲

A mosquito bite or maybe a venomous spider?
Try some cold compresses.

I mean, honestly... even if you've got some dirty fingers, it doesn't make you the bad guy here..

A cold, a draft, bacteria, a virus... honestly, there are a dozen different things it could be.
check if the lymph nodes near your ear feel swollen too.
that happened to me once—both eyes, lasted a whole month, and it turned out to be swollen lymph nodes.
either it’ll clear up on its own, or it might actually burst and drain some fluid (basically just mucus)
if it looks like that tomorrow, just head straight to the doctor. They'll probably give you some drops, ointment, or antibiotics.

And whatever you do, don't touch your eye. If you do touch it, wash your hands immediately so you don't spread it to the other one. Trust me, it's nasty when both eyes get swollen and half your face feels heavy from it (not trying to scare you or anything! 😘 )

(reminds me of those stories about spiders in the eye they used to tell us when we were little, haha)

that happened to me once; both eyes were a mess for a whole month because my lymph nodes swelled up like crazy.
either it’ll just clear up on its own, or it might actually burst and leak some fluid out (it's basically just mucus, really).
if it feels like that tomorrow, you should definitely head to the doctor right away; they'll probably give you some drops, ointment, or antibiotics.

And seriously, try not to touch your eye. If you do, wash your hands immediately so you don't spread it to the other one—trust me, it's super nasty when both sides swell up halfway down your face (not trying to freak you out or anything! 😘 )

(They used to try and sell me that old "spider" myth when I was a little kid, haha.)

My lymph nodes aren't actually swollen, it's just that my eyelid is all red and puffy... I'm really hoping nothing bursts, it's just the discharge that's driving me nuts. 🤮

Right now I'm just using cold compresses, hopefully it starts to settle down soon...

That's exactly how mine started too😈
Let me know if it starts getting itchy😬
If it's still looking like that tomorrow, you should probably just head to the doctor

Is it an eyelash root growing out of control... or did you just pick a fight with a pregnant woman? 😈 (A stye)

Either you forgot your mascara or the wind just caught you—those are usually the culprits. Personally, I just go with some lukewarm chamomile tea... works wonders, honestly 🙂. It’ll settle down, and nothing’s actually going to break 😉.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for all the advice, everyone! I just applied some Bacitracin ointment and I'm already feeling a whole lot better... fingers crossed I'll look totally normal again by tomorrow morning 🙄

I wonder what might be causing it? 😲

For me, it actually started when I developed an allergy to pet dander😢

Grass roots and those late summer blooms popping up in August... I mean, maybe you don't care about that sort of thing, but personally, I find it kind of charming, I guess.😉

Hey everyone! I’m running into a bit of a situation here. To make matters worse, I don't have health insurance at the moment, and I'm actually living pretty far away from the States right now—I don't see myself heading back anytime soon, if ever. About a month ago, I suddenly noticed my eyelids getting all swollen and flaky; they get red sometimes too, and they really start to sting, especially once evening rolls in. At first, I just ignored it, but after about a week, I started applying some zinc cream from Avene that my boyfriend uses for his face. Then, for the last week, I’ve been using Lip Smacker on them, but today the symptoms are right back where they started.
As far as I can tell, I haven't introduced any new products into my routine, and I've been living in the same spot for the last seven months, so I don't think it's anything in the environment or exposure to chemicals. Plus, I don't have any issues on other parts of my face or body. My only known allergy is to certain base metals—you know, if I wear specific types of jewelry near my ears or neck.
I'm currently in a really cold part of the country where the temperature has been hovering between 28 and 14 degrees Fahrenheit for nearly two months straight. I'm wondering if the wind and that biting cold air might be playing a role in this. Since I can pick up plenty of ointments and skincare products at a local drugstore without needing a prescription, I was hoping someone might have a suggestion. 🙂
Thanks so much in advance!

Instead of throwing thousands of dollars at over-the-counter remedies that won't actually solve anything, you're better off seeing a private ophthalmologist. It could be some kind of inflammation, and if that isn't treated properly, it can spread to the eye—which is definitely not something you want to deal with.

Hi there.

Hey there,

In case I wasn't clear enough before, I'm actually living in America right now—well, not permanently, but I've been here for a while—and I definitely don't have thousands of dollars lying around to fly to another country just to see a specialist. But thanks for the advice anyway.

I’ve noticed this happens to me during the winter when the temperature really drops. I wake up with swollen eyelids, and they usually settle down after about half an hour without even using any compresses, but then this crusty skin forms and eventually peels off. There’s redness too. I know it isn't some eye infection—I tried rinsing with chamomile and eye tea, but nothing worked. There’s no discharge or pus or anything like that. Once you rule out infections, you're left looking at kidney issues, thyroid problems, allergies, or circulation—those are the big culprits for eyelid swelling. None of that makes sense to me, though, because if it were one of those, I'd have other symptoms. Plus, it only pops up for a few days during those deep freezes. That leaves circulation as the likely cause (based on my own 🙂). I already struggle with circulation, and when it gets freezing outside, the vessels constrict even more, which probably messes with how my whole body functions. It's especially weird because the swelling only starts once I lie down; the longer I sleep, the worse it gets, but as soon as I wake up, it subsides. So, I’m lying still, which just makes the circulation even worse. Right now, I'm drinking nettle tea every day, and I'm planning to pick up some rosemary to help boost my circulation, so we'll see. Just thought I'd share in case 🙂 helps anyone else. During the day, I use Vaseline or some other ointment—sometimes even a mix of lard and calendula to deal with that crusty skin

Are you talking about flaky buildup?

It could be blepharitis (eyelid inflammation).
