If you had actually broken his arm, you’d be facing charges. That wouldn't qualify as self-defense. There is a massive difference between neutralizing an attacker and going out of your way to escalate things by twisting someone's elbow. Seriously, man, stay away from the booze.😎

But he didn't break his arm.
Since everyone was clearly wasted, it’s no surprise they all took a massive hit. 🙂

There’s nothing quite like watching those guys hit the mats just to work on their character rather than looking for a fight. 😁 😁 😁

I bet none of you have ever truly understood the concept of retribution. 😬
The guy attacked him first; he broke his arm just to make sure he wouldn't go looking for trouble again out of pure spite. And honestly? He was justified. 😁 😁

Look, I’m the guy who’s actually going to be a better person here! 🙂

But in the last five years? Honestly, I can count the times on one hand. You learn how to sense when a fight is brewing—and when that happens, I just don't engage. There were those few times, though—damn it—when I was backed into a corner... and I'm incredibly glad I train. The proof is pretty simple—my nose and my face are still intact, and I've still got all my teeth.

mellowsailor14 said:About ten days ago, I had my high school graduation. Around 1:00 AM, two of my buddies called me up and said, "Man, they're messing with Ness (who is my best friend in class), come join us." I’d had maybe five beers, so I was feeling a bit buzzed🙂 (I'm not much of a drinker), and I headed out in front of the hotel. There were three guys there (it wasn't even their graduation party🙄), and they were getting into a heated argument with my friends. My crew ended up being pretty intimidated, and I just stood there listening to some kid born in '91, a guy from '90, and someone my own age ('88) hurling threats at them.
I couldn't help myself; I have a naturally short fuse. This kid from '91 started yelling at me—something along the lines of "Stay out of this, man!"—and I just snapped. He was sitting in a chair and started lunging toward me, so I hit him with a front kick that sent him right back into the seat.
To avoid looking like some bully who just attacks kids, I immediately turned to the oldest one and asked if we should take this to the park to settle things—I didn't want to beat the kid right there on the sidewalk because a traffic cop happened to be passing by. He didn't say a word; instead, he swung a clumsy, unrefined punch straight at my head. From that moment on, everything became muscle memory.
I dodged the punch, grabbed his arm, and executed a kata guruma throw. After the throw, I was positioned over him—he was on his back, obviously—and I began raining punches down on his head. Following that, I grabbed his arm and applied a juji gatame.
The officer had been standing there like a statue, and only then did he move to break us up. At that exact second, I was actually pulling on his arm to break it, but at the last possible moment, I remembered that I couldn't afford a criminal record if I wanted to get into my target university (an academy run by the Department of Justice)
Eventually, they separated us. He could barely move his arm (though it wasn't broken). A "specialist" showed up, and I ended up facing a fine, which I calculate to be roughly $533. Even though it was clearly self-defense, the idiots at the police station told me that once public order is disturbed, it doesn't matter who the aggressor is.
I am quite calm about the whole thing.

What do you train in? Personally, I think you handled it quite intelligently, especially given the circumstances. 👍

I'm doing Judo, and I hit the gym alongside it.

😬 God, I'm such an idiot. Tried so hard not to come off like some aggressive jerk, but guess I'm just wired that way deep down.😠

Kata guruma and Gerald Smith76... looks like someone had a few too many drinks. 😬
It’s a good thing his buddy didn't lose his cool and land a punch to the ribs or the head.
I really wish I could have seen that first part, though...

Hey, can we get these guys training just to "become better people" to put it right in their signatures: "I practice martial arts to become a better person." 😁 😁 😁 😁 😁 😁 Does that sound a bit ridiculous?

It’s different for everyone. For me, hitting the gym and sparring definitely boosted my confidence—huge plus—but honestly, it just made me more aggressive and short-tempered. Usually, I'm the one getting into trouble because of it, not anyone else.

Plus, why would that sound stupid? All those Eastern disciplines are tied directly to their philosophy.

Lucky his buddy didn't step in and deck him or land a shoe right to the temple.
Man, I would've paid to see that first part...

If someone had caught that on video and put it on YouTube...😎
Nobody could even jump in. There weren't enough of us, and my buddies are total cowards. One guy actually had the "nerve" to kick that dude in the kidney while he was getting thrashed—absolute joke.👎

You've got a point there. It's a little idiotic, honestly.
