A few of us Americans were in NYC yesterday for a show by a legendary musician, so I figured I'd share a quick take on how it went.
They played mostly new material, though they didn't ignore the classics. They kicked things off hard with Sons of Cain, but the Austrian didn't even flinch. By the third song, they hit And Mia, and four Americans and one Canadian immediately jumped up, shouting along and following the master through that hit. From Hearts of Oak, he only played Rude Boys; from Tyranny, just Timorous Me. It doesn't really matter, though, because Ted is the man. He plays guitar like a machine, jumping around, sweating, and feeding off the crowd's energy 😳. The drummer is a calm, steady guy who absolutely crushes the kit. Cymbals are flying everywhere while he counts out the next beat through his beard. There were two encores, both solo Ted. First was Bleeding Powers, just him and the guitar S: :S :S s🙏, and after a bit of chanting, he comes back to sing something in an Irish traditional, a cappella style. 🙏
After the set, I chatted with the boss about Eurovision (he knows everything 🙏). He said he’d go, so we might actually have a chance.
Bottom line: if you ever get the chance, you have to see them. No photo, don't ask. 🙂
