So, I’m stuck on a heavy-duty course of antibiotics for a while. Naturally, I’ve been hit with the side effects—diarrhea. It’s the standard antibiotic experience, so I’m not losing sleep over the symptom itself. What actually worries me is the timeline. How am I supposed to survive a full month of this?
Any advice on how to manage? I don't really have a choice here; I just have to power through it. It isn't constant—it's about three times a day—but it feels like there's a constant flight pattern going on in my gut. No cramps, just... turbulence.

Vitamins? Yogurt? Diet changes?

😲 😲 Good grief, swiftscout8... 😢

Your liver is going to take a hit... I was on antibiotics myself... they threw two or three different kinds at me about two and a half years ago. Honestly, I think I only just managed to resolve all the mess they left behind "today" (we'll see).

I dealt with the same diarrhea you're having... everything went right out the other end minutes after eating. It felt like bananas were the only thing that actually stayed put. Yogurt? Plain was okay, but fruit flavors would fly straight through me. As far as actual food goes, it was strictly rice and chicken. Try that and see if it works for you.
Since my liver was basically trashed, I dealt with skin issues too (they just wait for the right moment to flare up) and constant, crushing fatigue... I mean, even a 15-minute walk would leave me wiped out.

Be extremely careful... I hope you're otherwise healthy and have a decent immune system.

It’s actually quite helpful for your gut health to consume plenty of yogurt while you're on antibiotics, and you might even want to check with your doctor to see if there's an alternative medication available that's easier on the system.
Best regards!

Hey, drop the name of that intense antibiotic😉 and tell us why you're on it.
Honestly, unless it’s some super "wild" antibiotic that totally trashes your liver, I wouldn't sweat it too much 🙂
But if you're taking anything from the tetracycline family, stay far away from yogurt or any other dairy products. It’s a big no-no.
Anyway, for a more helpful post, just list the antibiotic name 🙂

It’s about Ciprofloxacin. I'm dealing with this Proteus issue that just keeps coming back. Up until now, I've only ever dealt with short courses—we're talking less than <2 weeks!
I went in for a checkup last November. Everything seemed fine at the time.

Unfortunately, I’ll have to just grit my teeth and get through this. It looks like I'm stuck choosing between the lesser of two evils.

Stomach issues? Could be Helicobacter pylori.

Ciprofloxacin is definitely a "wild" antibiotic😉 but you basically reached the same conclusion I did—you’ve gotta pick the lesser of two evils when it comes to your stomach issues.

Honestly, dealing with diarrhea is pretty common with Cisco, but try tackling it head-on by watching what you eat. gentlecanyon92 actually gave some solid advice there (sticking to things like bananas, boiled meat, maybe some Hershey, etc.)

I didn't really feel any stomach problems... maybe some mild heartburn or something, but nothing noticeable.

No.. what chocolate?😱 😬 Chocolate on the liver is out of the question... I couldn't bring myself to eat any more than half a bar for about six months (though I eventually gave in after roughly half a 😢)

Cisco can totally wreck your gut flora. To try and stay ahead of that, you should definitely look into using some LGG products—think things like yogurt or probiotic supplements. You can even find natural anti-diarrheal capsules at most pharmacies where LGG cultures are the main ingredient.

If you're still dealing with diarrhea for more than three days, you really need to stop taking the Cisco. It can actually trigger a super nasty case of pseudomembranous enterocolitis, which is honestly the last thing anyone wants to deal with.

I mean, I seriously went nuts after just two days on that AT&T (Cipro) madness—it basically turned my gut into a playground for Candida to set up shop in every single corner of my system! 👎 But honestly, I don't think muscle cramps are usually triggered by those kinds of floral imbalances, unless you're dealing with massive diarrhea or something... either way, LGG should definitely help get things back on track. 😉

For sure, if there’s any liver stuff going on, then Mary shouldn't be touching the Hershey bars.😉
Personally, I don't think there's any real risk of pseudomembranous enterocolitis, and I bet Mary will breeze through the whole course without needing to swap out the antibiotic.

Look, if this diarrhea keeps dragging on for more than three days, you seriously need to ditch the Cisco because that thing can trigger a super nasty case of pseudomembranous enterocolitis.

???
I'm guessing you can back this up..

Personally, I don't think we need to worry about pseudomembranous enterocolitis. I suspect Mary will breeze through this entire course without needing to switch antibiotics.

Things are mostly stabilizing. I'll just watch my diet a bit more closely and leave it at that. If things take a turn for the worse, I'll definitely head to the doctor to figure out the next steps. So far, nothing unusual—no yeast infections, no stomach issues either.

I'm not usually one for medication (I won't even take an aspirin for a headache), but over the last couple of years, I've been on antibiotics constantly because of this Proteus.

Look, I love antibiotics as much as the next guy, but your gut might actually appreciate a probiotic for once. Just go in there like, "Good morning, pharmacist! I'm taking this specific antibiotic and it's wrecking my stomach, so I need a good probiotic to fix it. Please and thank you."

Is it even possible to have some kind of weird smell under your feet?

I'm on Augmentin 🙂
not tripping or anything.

Sweat can sometimes take on a different scent, much like urine does. It might just be your body trying to flush out toxins accumulated over the last eight years.😁😘

Taking an antibiotic alongside something like Culturelle or a similar probiotic usually helps.🙂 There are even lactose-free versions available, though I can't quite recall the specific brand name right now.🤔

I mean, I think it’s pretty standard for Klavocin to mess with your scent or even urine color—so naturally, 😬 that carries over to how you sweat, too.

And honestly, your stool can get pretty interesting from Klavocin, too. Generally speaking, Klavocin has some seriously intense side effects 😁
