What antivirus are you guys using?

I'm running Norton 360 on Windows Vista along with the Windows Firewall, which works fine. My only gripe as an advanced user is that the Windows firewall doesn't do logging. Had to enable it myself... now it feels like my old setup back when I was still on XP.

On Vista, I've also got Malwarebytes running with Ad-watch turned on, and that's basically it. Don't need anything else. Just waiting for McAfee Total Protection to drop since it'll be compatible with Vista... that thing is killer. Word is it'll have an engine from Norton, which is top-tier stuff. Everything else should stay pretty classic based on what I heard from the devs. 😉

I absolutely loathe antivirus programs, which is exactly why I don't have a single one installed on my machine.😁

Norton... honestly, where do we even start with this one? It’s just... ugh. I feel like I've spent half my life wrestling with software that claims to protect me but mostly just ends up being a massive headache. Dealing with Norton is always such a chore... it's exhausting.
McAfee Total Protection... what a disaster. I’ve been staring at this screen for an hour, just waiting for something—anything—to actually work. It’s like trying to drive a car with square wheels. You expect a certain level of stability when you install security software, right? That's the whole point. But instead, I'm stuck in this endless loop of glitches and frustration... nothing makes sense. Honestly, I'm about ready to toss the whole machine out the window and start over. Just more wasted time.
Malwarebytes... Always thinking about that one. It’s funny how we all gravitate toward the same tools, isn't it? One minute you're fine, the next you're staring at an error message wondering where it all went wrong... Just one of those things.

I can't tell if it's just me, but it feels like Malwarebytes used to flag all these viruses and spyware, and then just... nothing. Like, it would find them and then totally fail to actually delete them... but now I'm seeing this new update is finally working!

I’m currently running Avast, Malwarebytes, and Spybot Search & Destroy. I decided to skip using a dedicated firewall because it always seems to get in the way when I'm trying to download torrents, but honestly, I haven't run into any actual viruses in ages—just the occasional annoying tracking cookie.

Honestly, the best Antivirus I've ever used—and still think is the king—is GData Antivirenkit 2007. It’s a German company that actually uses two different engines, specifically Norton and Bitdefender. It’s incredibly precise and catches about 99.9% of everything. It goes for about $35 here, which is why I don't have it right now. I tried finding a way to grab it online, but I couldn't find a working key anywhere. I guess it's just better to buy it legally if you want a truly fantastic antivirus. It's my number one recommendation, I guess.

I went ahead and disabled simple file sharing entirely—just set up a guest account and I'm not touching anything else 🙄

The new version of AVK didn't really do it for me. I guess The Program feels a bit unfinished and still runs into quite a few Errors. 😈

I use Norton. My key ended up on a blacklist, but I managed to find a new one.

I’d suggest uninstalling the Norton software control first.
Then, maybe try installing Bitdefender! 👍

Finally—someone else using Bitdefender! It’s right up there with Norton in terms of performance, but way less annoying—honestly, the others don't even come close.😎

What are you basing that on?
Which certified AV tests have you actually looked at?
How many different AV programs did you go through before settling on Bitdefender?
In your opinion, how is Bitdefender better than Norton, a multi-time VirusBulletin champion? 👎

I've cycled through plenty of free and commercial AV suites, scanners, and whatnot...
Norton is the best I've used. It stays out of the way, updates automatically, scans fast, and as far as I can tell, has the most advanced heuristics on the market.

When you mention Bitdefender, which one are we talking about:
Bitdefender Antivirus Plus v10 or
Bitdefender Antivirus Plus v10

I want to know which one is faster, which is better, which runs smoothly, and what the actual difference is.

Norton + Spybot on my laptop

Avast is honestly great—the prevention side of things is top-tier. It might be a little slower and heavier on system resources, but it’s definitely worth it. My only gripe was back when I was using ZoneAlarm, it just wouldn't play nice with it 🙂
Norton has let me down a few times lately. That splash screen during bootup is super irritating, and sometimes it even hangs while I'm trying to launch ICQ... it just won't move forward until I shut ICQ down, which is frustrating since it's supposed to be fast and lightweight
Anyway, once I finish tweaking Windows on my laptop, Avast is going right on there

Malwarebytes is alright, but in my testing, Spybot actually performs better; it catches more stuff, even now with the TeaTimer running... I don't know what else to tell you

I'm not really using any specialized firewall programs at the moment
