Great casting, terrible movie

The Departed. My God, what an absolute disaster of a movie. It felt like everyone involved was just coasting on autopilot, barely putting in any effort at all. Not a single performance managed to hold my interest. Ugh... honestly, I’m still reeling from the fact that I wasted two and a half hours of my life on that garbage. It’s been a long time since I found myself checking the runtime just to see how much longer I had to endure whatever I was watching; I could have probably sat there scrolling through my phone and had a better time. If I were Scorsese, I’d tell him straight up that all that little shoulder patting and "prestige" nonsense is just a one-way ticket to hell.
God, that actually pissed me off. I'm going to go drink a liter of chamomile tea to calm down. 😁

Man, that really ticked me off. Going to go drink a liter of chamomile tea now. 😁
Another damn remake😁

I have absolutely no interest. Besides, I know how to swim just fine. The only thing I ever drown is my own sorrow, and I certainly won't be doing that in some pathetic, shallow little puddle.😁

On the other hand, I remember pausing in front of a cardboard promotional display and noticing it featured John Malkovich, Jeremy Irons, and Robert Carlyle—it really is a shame to see talent like that wasted on such mediocre celluloid. 😢
🙂 I was actually quite looking forward to seeing it, given how much I enjoy Jeremiah and Johnny.

I always get jumped on whenever I call out a bad movie, but here we go:
Gosford Park
Honestly, this was the most tedious movie I’ve ever sat through. It drags on for two hours... you spend the first hour trying to remember who everyone is, then the second hour figuring out who belongs to whom—who's the daughter, the son, the father, the mistress... then in the last ten minutes, some murder happens and that's supposedly all the excitement you get. Yet critics absolutely loved it. Why?
Because Altman directed it? So what?
Sure, it shows off the hierarchy between the upper class and their servants; personally, I think "You Rang, M'Lord?" does that way better.
To be fair, the cast is top-tier, especially when you consider just how many heavy hitters are actually in it.

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace: Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Jack Lloyd, Frank Oz, Ian McDiarmid, Sofia Coppola, Samuel L. Jackson...

Reading this post, all I can think is: this person is clearly obsessed with You Rang, M'Lord—it's honestly a mess!

northerncrane4, I'm not arguing against You Rang—that series really rocks 🙂
And Gosford Park is just a fantastic film 🙏 🙏

To me, that just feels like being a total jerk.

And now, another legend sinks beneath the waves 😢
First that beaver, and now you...
Maybe only Larry Martin11 could pull you out—provided he admits his hatred for Lars von Trier 😬

Dammit. Honestly, I think you're all being way too soft on those British comedy shows. If they tried acting like that in American sitcoms—well, they'd be pelted with rocks and sticks.

northerncrane4 said:Man, honestly... I think you're being way too kind to those British comedy shows. If actors in our local productions acted half as well as they do over there, I'd probably be throwing rocks at them just to get them to move better.
northerncrane4, have you checked out season three of The League of Gentlemen yet? Seriously, what those three pull off is something nobody else on the planet can touch. The acting, the characters... man. I feel like if I forced all our local amateurs from the acting academy to watch it for eight hours every single day, they’d actually learn more about the craft than they ever would from some official curriculum.

I believe it. Same goes for Ricky Gervais and the Pythons. But You Rang, M'Lord? Not by a long shot. Neither does Alo, alo. And if we're being honest—not even Red Dwarf.

Yeah, I totally agree with you on that. Honestly, stuff like *Dr. Beeching* and that whole vibe is just... well, it's garbage. Luckily, it's mostly just the leftover scraps of that old-school Cockney humor—which, I should mention, *Blackadder Goes Forth* parodies brilliantly in one episode—that Peter Sellers and his crew basically finished off once and for all.
Now, *Red Dwarf* is kind of a different story. It’s not even on my favorites list because of the comedy or the acting, per se, but more because of the actual stories. I feel like I saw more original sci-fi concepts in that show than in all of *Star Trek* combined, or even that old *Twilight Zone*. It has these absolute gems of ideas. It’s just a shame they wrapped them up in such a silly concept.
And what about *Bottom*? Have you seen the live tour? The one they recorded live? Man, that was brilliant. Just the sheer energy and acting. The fact that both of them memorized mountains of dialogue for such a ridiculous, shallow show... and then those incredible improvisations when they lose their place in all those lines, along with those, well, brilliant little hints. To me, Rik Mayall is the Laurence Olivier of comedy. 😁
