For the last few months, Iโ€™ve been hitting the sack around midnight and not actually getting up until about 9:30 AM. My internal clock (basically my ๐Ÿ™‚ bladder) usually nudges me awake around 7:00, but instead of getting up, I just roll over, hug my pillow, and drift right back off.
The thing is, those extra two and a half hours are a total wash... I end up tossing and turning every ten minutes, hyper-aware of every noise from the street, and waking up with a stiff neck. Even so, I just stay there lingering in bed. Itโ€™s frustrating.
To make matters worse, those final few minutes of sleep usually involve some pretty intense nightmares.

So, how do I actually train myself to get moving earlierโ€”say, by 7:30?

Anyone else here dealing with this kind of cycle?๐Ÿ˜•

go ahead and make up some chores ๐Ÿ™‚
if you can't even manage to drag yourself out of bed on your own anymore ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I mean, I've got my dog and my grandpa to look after ๐Ÿ˜
and honestly, way more than enough going on to make sure I don't sleep through everything ๐Ÿ™‚

PS, I think when you're waking up at 7 AM like that, your body is basically just telling you it's had plenty of lounging for one lifetime ๐Ÿ™‚

And honestly, those two and a half hours leading up to ten o'clock are always a total disaster... Iโ€™m tossing and turning every ten minutes, every little sound from the street bleeds through the walls, my neck is killing me from the way I slept... yet I still can't bring myself to get up, I just lie there sulking.
I tend to have these really heavy, unsettling dreams during those final few minutes of sleep, too.

Anyone else here stuck in this same loop?๐Ÿ˜•

Yeah, I'm in the exact same boat, except I stretch out that "sleep" until 11:00 AM. ๐Ÿ‘Ž It leaves me with a pounding headache and feeling like absolute garbage all day, but since it's the holidays, I just can't force myself out of bed when I don't have to. ๐Ÿ˜ˆ
The advice from brisknomad6 is actually pretty solid; you basically just need to find some sort of reason or a hobby that's actually interesting enough to make getting up early worth the effort.

Start waking up at 7:00 AM consistently. It will eventually become a habit, and you won't even need an alarm clock anymore.

Plus, I tend to have these terrible dreams during those last few minutes of sleep.

So, how do I actually train myself to get up earlier... say, by 7:30?

Anyone else dealing with this exact same mess?๐Ÿ˜•

I'm in the exact same boat. Nothing seems to work. Every single morning I have to drag myself to work and I struggle like an idiotโ€”cursing under my breath and barely managing to stand up. It's like I'm missing that spark of willpower entirely. Then, on my days off, I just lounge in bed until noon. It's pathetic.

I have to agree... I find myself getting up around 6:30 or 7:00 AM because of my job, and whenever I have a day off, I make the decision to sleep in longerโ€”just to get some actual restโ€”and what happens? I still wake up right around 7:00 AM! I try to drift back to sleep, but instead of feeling refreshed, I always end up feeling even more exhausted. Isn't it funny how that works? For me, the absolute best thing is to just get out of bed the very first time I wake upโ€”whether that happens at 5:30, 6:00, or 6:30 AMโ€”because that is the only way I feel truly energized for the rest of the day...

I donโ€™t start work until 10:00 AM, yet I spend every single morning wishing I had actually woken up at 7:00. To be able to make breakfast, sip some coffee, and catch the news without rushing... thatโ€™s what Iโ€™m missing.
When I roll out of bed at 9:00 or 9:30, Iโ€™m just frantically throwing clothes on and sprinting to the office. It feels chaotic.

Today, my internal clock took over and jolted me awake at 6:00.๐Ÿ˜ I made sure to hit the sack by 10:00 PM last night. Apparently, my body decided eight hours was plenty. I felt terrible about getting up that early, so I ended up lounging around until 8:00.

Still, itโ€™s an improvement over my usual routine. My plan is to shift my wake-up time back by a minute every day until I finally hit that 7:00 AM sweet spot.๐Ÿ™‚

How long does it actually take for your body to adjust to a 7:00 AM wake-up call? Two or three weeks?

Sometimes I think back to those days working the 6-to-2 shift...
what a trip.

I honestly don't think people can just decide to become morning people overnight. Itโ€™s a habit you have to build over time. For me, waking up early feels like a daily battle I'm losing. I usually roll into the office after 11:00 AMโ€”which is cutting it closeโ€”and I feel terrible about it every single day. I get so frustrated with myself, but I just can't force myself out of bed, nor can I manage to go to sleep earlier. I don't think I'll ever get it right. My low blood pressure doesn't help matters, either. Even when I have something critical scheduled, I end up rushing at the very last second and running late. The guilt from being tardy is absolutely killing me.

When the baby finally "arrives"
You basically learn how to leap out of bed every two hoursโ€”it becomes second nature, reallyโ€”but man, when you actually manage to snag five or six hours of uninterrupted sleep? It feels like you've been blessed by the heavens themselves. ;-)

If I had a baby to look after, Iโ€™d be sleeping like a log and waking up at every little sound. But since I don't, life is different.

I actually managed to drag myself out of bed by 8:00 AM today. Spent about five minutes just sitting on the edge of the mattress, trying to remember why I'm bothering to get up when I don't have to.๐Ÿ™‚

Juicy Couture... that's two days in a row!
If I can hit 8:00 AM again tomorrow, Iโ€™m moving the goalposts to 7:55.๐Ÿ˜

Itโ€™s just going to get harder once winter hits; waking up at 7:00 AM is basically going to feel like the middle of the night.

I wake up at least 30 minutes later than I actually need to every single morning. When I start planning weekend trips, I find myself coming up with every excuse under the sun just to avoid getting out of bed.

My body just won't let me stay in bed longer than 8 hours. I mean, if I try, everything just starts aching. And honestly, the worst part is that by 10 PM, I'm already completely wiped out. So, I usually roll out of bed around 7 AM and just blink a few times... I guess if my eyes aren't stinging by then, it's officially time to get up and face the day.

Set up a coffee date at 8:00 AM in the neighborhood with a fellow early bird. Thatโ€™s just how I rollโ€”itโ€™s become a total habit for me, and it works perfectly for the other person who actually enjoys getting an early start too.๐Ÿ™‚

Growing up, I was always an early sleeper because I hated being awake in the afternoons. My mom used to say I was a total nightmare in the evenings since Iโ€™d be wide awake so early in the morning..
That habit stuck with me. I guess I just don't function right after 9:30 PM, let alone later than that (like right now)..but I still wake up early. I need exactly eight hours of sleep to actually work properly; anything more or less just doesn't work for me.
If I went to bed at 10:00, I'd probably be up by 6:00. I don't really know what to do with myself then. I don't have a job, and there's no school, so waking up that early feels pretty pointless, I guess.

Thatโ€™s a solid strategy, but it doesn't work for me. I need to get up, hit the restroom, wash my face, and brush my teeth first. If I don't feel like I'm going to keel over by then, I can actually start my day. ๐Ÿ™‚

Today marks the sixth time I've bolted out of bed at 8:00 sharp. Today, I managed to roll out of bed at 7:50 ๐Ÿ˜, and headed straight for the bathroom ๐Ÿ™‚. I tend to drink a lot of tea before bed and usually turn in around 11:00 PM.

It turns out a week is plenty of time to train your willpower.

Juicy Couture... looks like I'll be an early bird after all.

I don't really get this part though... how is that even possible? Like, how much fluid are you actually drinking?

Because me? Iโ€™m getting up like five times a night just because I have to pee.๐Ÿ˜ข

I find myself grappling with similar issues, though I suspect it truly boils down to a matter of habit. And much like any habit you cultivate, it is something you can eventually prune away, if I may use such a metaphor.
My specific struggle involves staying up far too late... for instance, one day I might accidentally find myself wide awake until 3 or 4 in the morning, and naturally, the following day I end up sleeping in much later (being a college student has its perks, I suppose ๐Ÿ˜). Then, the next night, sleep eludes me again until the early hours, creating this exhausting cycle that lasts a week or two until I am completely drained and forced to drag myself out of bed by 7 AM every single morning. Once I do that, everything stabilizes. However, the moment my schedule slips even slightly, the whole cycle begins anew ๐Ÿ˜ข... especially on the weekends when I go out. Today, quite frankly, I slept through half the day ๐Ÿ˜ข..

Obligations, the truth be toldโ€”right now, I lack any formal responsibilities. I really ought to sit down and focus on my studies, but that is a separate conversation entirely ๐Ÿ˜

I believe the key is to establish a steady rhythm and maintain it regardless of external distractions. That suggestion about having coffee at 8 AM that someone mentioned? I imagine that would certainly assist in resetting the clock ๐Ÿ˜

Dammit, now I have a craving for coffee ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

I used to be a heavy sleeper too, back before I joined the Army. Once I got out, it was just stupidโ€”waking up at 5 AM with nowhere to go while everyone else is still passed out...
