Look, I doubt anyone can say for certain that someone they love won't end up struggling with addiction. It makes me wonder... would you just let them die? Just so they don't become a financial burden on you?

Duh, obviously... but if you're actually pitching this, you better come to the table with some hard numbers—just so people don't tune out immediately. I mean, if the public perception is just "junkies are trash and need to kick the bucket," then yeah, good luck... the only way to actually get anyone to listen is to talk about the bottom line. Money talks, right?

Honestly, those of us dealing with diabetes have been showing up to Medicare with all sorts of math and logic for years, but it hasn't really moved the needle... 😬

I say we just euthanize anyone with a needle mark on their body. 👍
Why bother wasting taxpayer money on them?

So I guess she’d just cut funding for alcoholics too?
and kill off the suicide hotlines as well?

Honestly, I don't really get why this kind of question is being asked in the Health section... maybe it would be better to start a new subforum for Illness😕

Are you smoking? Eating like trash? Not hitting the gym? Running on concrete? Speeding down the highway? Getting in a car with a drunk driver? Using a condom every single time?

Period cramps, smoking, bird flu, allergies... it's all health-related.

(Do you even know the difference between a topic and a forum? 😕 )

Yeah, sure, you can just take their side if that's what you want to do.👍

Yes, yes, no, no, yes, no, no.

And I’m more than happy to take on the responsibilities that come with my medical needs because:
a) I actually cause injury sometimes, meaning I pay way more into the system through my premiums than I've ever used.
b) Because I've stayed healthy enough to be a regular blood donor—helping people who truly need it without stopping to wonder if that blood is going to some drunk who caused a wreck or some "innocent angel."
c) Because I have a donor card, and if 😈 takes me to someone in need, there shouldn't be restrictions just because some lowlife ruined their liver with booze or their lungs with cigarettes.

Enough? Or do you want more?😠

Also, tell me, which addict actually meets all those criteria?

a) I’m paying into the system more than I’ll ever actually use.

Look, if you get lung cancer—which I hope you don't—you're going to burn through way more cash than you ever put in. Same goes for HIV. Or if you wreck your car, end up under the knife, hit the ICU, and spend months in rehab just to walk again.

For example.

And oh, while you're burning through that money, maybe some woman fighting advanced breast cancer could actually get the therapy she needs instead.
Don't kid yourself either; if you die from any of that stuff, your organs aren't going to be of any use to anyone.

Nice sentiment, really, but maybe try a little less arrogance and a little more humanity. It wouldn't kill you.

(Though, by your logic, if you died, there'd be no risk of you wasting Medicare funds, so maybe that wouldn't be so bad after all. 😉)

😛
I mean, if everything was actually that perfect, it’d be boring as hell.
Just imagine; no homeless people, no junkies, no smokers, no sick folks, just us "perfect" specimens.

Honestly, I'd probably bail immediately; but hey, maybe the world would actually be a better place.😁

Alright, now why don't you explain to the rest of us how addicts—who have rightfully earned those medical benefits—actually contribute anything to the system, whether it's financially or otherwise?

Like, for example... yuck.

Oh, I don't know, maybe they actually paid into Medicare. Or maybe their parents did. 😉
Maybe they even have a donor card lying around somewhere...

I mean, they don't really add anything to the equation; even if people cause accidents through pure negligence, we aren't just going to fire them all.

but, you know, a certain number of people actually get their act together; they start over, build new lives, and then they go right back to relying on that same broken system.

Edward Green said:What you're doing is fine, but maybe try showing a little less ego and a little more heart.

I can show compassion to People, but not to those who’ve completely abandoned their humanity by choosing the life of addicts, thieves, and lowlifes who rob their own parents or harass people in their own neighborhoods...

And don't try to tell me I need to be understanding toward everyone here. This applies strictly and exclusively to drug addicts!
