So, here’s the deal. I was pulling a 35-pound bag of dog food out of my trunk today and I think I just... snapped. Made one wrong move and now my lower back is absolutely killing me, right right above the tailbone area.
What should I do? I've already popped some Voltaren, taken some FlexPro, and I'm slathering on Voltaren gel and Polar Ice, but nothing is touching this pain. I can barely walk. Lying down is a nightmare, and sitting is okay-ish, but the second I try to stand up, I'm in total agony. It's been six hours of pure misery.
Does anyone have any suggestions to help me get through this?

If you're dealing with a hernia, I’m worried this might be a long road for you—it's been a similar story with my mom. Massage therapy can offer some relief. Just stay away from chiropractors.
Hang in there.

Look, I don't usually have an issue with it, but today was just one wrong move too many... Honestly, if I were getting a massage right now, I’d only trust a total pro. But I just can't bring myself to get in the car and drive all the way across town to find one. 😢

A little bit of raindrop saved me at my physical therapist's office. I even found some cat litter sitting right there in the driveway. Honestly, maybe it could work for dog food too.😁

Honestly? I would actually suggest she see a chiropractor! I dealt with the exact same thing myself. I actually tweaked my back during a big move—total nightmare—and I was in constant agony for nearly three weeks straight until someone finally gave me the address of a specialist. In two minutes I was basically "reset," if you know what I mean. After that, I haven't had a single issue since!

Look, it’s clear everyone is split on this. My mom was actually advised to stay far away from chiropractors for her sciatica issues.

I don't know...

Maybe call your doctor and see if they can give you an injection first, but if that doesn't do the trick, you should definitely hunt down a really solid chiropractor—because, honestly, there are some pretty sketchy ones out there.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone... feeling a little better now. I’m going to go try some physical therapy because my legs are absolutely killing me from standing all day. 😬

2 Larry Lewis2: wait, what even is a raindrop?

2 nimbledriver81: how bad did they hit you? was it painful? can you share that doctor's number?

Unfortunately, my doctor is actually based in Germany—so I had to travel quite a bit! Anyway, I went in for the exam and walked them through everything—exactly where the pain hits and when it flares up (honestly, I couldn't sit, stand, lie down, or even walk for more than ten minutes without issues). So, I lay down on the exam table, and it’s the usual routine: "Does this hurt? How about here? Now turn onto your hip"—and then, *pop*, just like that, it's done! 🙂 The only thing I felt afterward was a bit of tension in the muscle right above the area—but the doctor warned me about that beforehand—it wasn't really "pain," just a sensation of the muscle being a little tight. After about two hours, everything felt perfectly fine again. Plus, he even used a 3D skeletal model to show me exactly what had been pinched!

Lie back on the bed and start rolling gently...
Let your husband—or whoever you're with—take hold of your ankles and pull slowly while you grip the headboard for stability.
A little bit of light stretching can really help ease those aches and pains.
If it feels good, go ahead and repeat the movement—but if the pain spikes, stop immediately.

It hits me at least twice a month😢 There really isn't much you can do about it. For me, the first day is always the absolute worst, the second day is just okay, and then by the third day, things finally start to let up. Usually, the whole thing lasts no more than three or four days. Honestly, even one wrong move or messing up my form during a workout—like failing to keep my posture straight on the stairmaster or doing crunches incorrectly—is enough to trigger it. Typically, some light stretching and a bit of Deep Heat are all that helps ease the tension.

Honestly, my go-to combo for stuff like this is Voltaren Rapid, Vitamin B, and 2 mg of Valium all at once. It works like a charm.

If I was popping that combo every single time my back seized up, I'd have a ruined liver by now.😬
I try to stay away from pills whenever possible—just sticking to DeepHeat when I can... though I end up carrying it with me all the way to the office and through the workday, because what else am I supposed to do? I just try to power through it for a day or two.

Things are looking up a bit today. I’m still messing around with the Polar Ice pack, but thank God I don't need the painkillers anymore. I've got a massage scheduled for tomorrow, so until then, I'm just taking it easy and keeping my legs elevated.

steelsailor17: Sadly, I don't have a husband or anyone else around to help stretch me out.😢
