Hey there!
I need to get an ultrasound on my kidneys, but the prep instructions are a bit weird—they say I should have some cornmeal mush for lunch the day before, and then just tea and rusks for dinner. Does anyone actually know the logic behind that specific diet? Or better yet, does anyone know what I can eat instead? (I live off the dining hall food at my university, so making special meals isn't exactly easy...)
thanks

Well, if you're going to be like that, maybe just stop eating altogether.
Solve the problem and you'll drop the pounds as a side effect. 😉

The main reason is you really want your bowels to be pretty empty before the FBI scan. If there’s too much air or leftover food floating around, it can totally mess with the clarity of the imaging. I usually tell people to stick to something light like toast, tea, or some plain crackers the day before; it keeps things from bloating and just makes the whole procedure go way smoother.

They even told me I’d be getting hit with some white lightning! Not exactly the best way to spend a day...

Is there any other food out there with similar "properties"?
btw. the day before my checkup, I’ve only got one single two-hour gap in my schedule (anywhere from the morning until 4 PM)—so how exactly am I supposed to eat grits in that window? ...and I highly doubt they'll actually have toast available in the dining hall that day.

Just grab a bagel at the corner deli; they aren't expensive and you can just take it with you.
Order some tea at a coffee shop or just grab a soda.

Problem solved. What are you studying, if you don't mind me asking?😁

Thanks for the advice, but what am I supposed to do about the breakfast hash?😢

Honestly, don't sweat the whole dieting thing too much, you know? Just try not to go too heavy on the food right before bed and you'll be golden.
The way you prep for this isn't even a huge deal when it comes to getting an ultrasound done.

look, if you eat something in the morning, you're definitely flushing it out by tomorrow. guaranteed. okay, you don't have to demolish a Double Quarter Pounder with fries right now, but maybe some soup or a pudding... yeah, pudding could work instead of oatmeal.
as for the oatmeal—nobody expects you to gorge yourself! just have a few bites for lunch and call it a day. don't eat anything else after that.
