Honestly, I think that kind of risk exists with pretty much any church out there in the world. You mentioned Satanism—which is more of a belief system—rather than pointing to one specific denomination, but you know, it's all similar in that sense...

I mean, help me understand why the whole Satanism thing got you so worked up. Could you maybe give me an actual example of what you saw from MM? I ask because I actually went to one of their shows, and I didn't see anything remotely resembling Satanism; though, I suppose it's possible they just weren't leaning into that side of things during that particular set.

The church uses the "Satanism" label as a scare tactic to maintain control over people. Real metalheads aren't Satanists—I know this because I remember when Judas Priest had lyrics like:

"I don't believe in Satan,
I don't believe in God,
My love is noise and speed,
In my body lies heavenly strength,
Through my veins flows metal blood..."

So, metal isn't about Satanism. It encourages individual thought and independence, which is exactly what the church fears. They invent these labels to demonize anyone who doesn't fit their mold just to preserve their own absolute dictatorship...

So, some pretty intense satanic bands are heading to Chicago soon—Vital Remains and Deicide might be stopping by. I’m honestly considering hitting up one of those shows just to pay my respects to the devil 😁...

You've picked up a few terms tossed at you by whatever ideology shaped you, and now you jump whenever certain institutions or groups command it through the media.

Think for yourself and you won't have any problems. Distinguishing good from evil isn't so difficult that you need someone else's manual to do it.
A clear conscience is the only guide you need. 😉

I find it utterly difficult to wrap my head around the fact that, in this glorious 21st century, there are actually individuals under the age of 25 who still cling to a belief in God or the Devil
