I’m up at 6:00 AM every single morning and honestly? I can barely wait to jump out of bed. Sleeping is just... boring. Plus, my to-do list is already staring me down. If I linger under the covers for an extra few minutes, it’s strictly because I need the mental space to figure out my outfit for the day. 😉
Eating isn't even on my radar. I don't feel the need for food until like 10 or 11... it's like I've got some kind of cosmic engine running inside me or something. Just pure energy. 😉
Obviously, I still drink coffee to "wake up," though. Gotta have one vice, right? 🙂

Melissa Cruz2 said:I used to be an early morning runner, but lately, I’ve switched to longer evening sessions—makes planning my day a lot easier. My biggest issue was the heat; I couldn't cool down for ages, which meant having to shower multiple times before heading into work.
but honestly, there's nothing quite like grabbing some fruit and a coffee after a run...🙏

Fruit and coffee together? Gross. Also, don't sprint through the final stretch of your route—just walk briskly for the last ten minutes instead. That's the standard advice for winding down a workout, anyway... plus, it helps you cool off faster.

I don't even need to eat; I don't feel any hunger until around 10 or 11 AM.

That sounds pretty unhealthy to me—and if you're already wide awake like you say, why are you even drinking coffee?

Noah Harris50 said:So you're telling me I have to be up by 5 AM? Yikes.😲

Personally, I’m more of a 7:00 AM riser—I squeeze in a quick run until about 7:30, then fuel up with some protein oats while I cool down. After a super fast shower,
I'm out the door by 8:00 and hitting my desk at the office by 8:30.

I don't quite have time to grab a coffee before the grind starts, so I just make that my first order of business once I get to work.🙂
I mean, I don't strictly *need* it—but man, I love my coffee!😍

Oh, and just a heads-up—real running happens in the evenings... this morning stuff is really just to jumpstart the metabolism and get things moving!🙂

Partly just habit, but sometimes I actually need it... kind of like today.

I actually woke up because my dog was snoring right on my shoulder... 6:00 AM this morning. I took advantage of that extra half hour before work to throw a load of laundry in and tidy up the apartment 🙂
so I don't have to deal with any of that later tonight!

dodo, I am seriously jealous of that morning orange and your Starbucks cappuccino!

Hey, hey, 🙂 someone please tell me—how does Jacobs actually stack up against Nestlé's cappuccino?

By the way, fruit is definitely best in the morning on an empty stomach... better vitamin absorption and all that.
I'm totally not a fan of those massive breakfasts. I usually just use that time before lunch to detox a bit... lots of water, maybe some fruit...

It made me wonder—are you guys actually functional in the morning? How long does it take for you to actually wake up, and what’s your go-to trick to shake off the fog? I’m always exhausted, whether I slept a little or a ton. Mornings suck for me.
On top of that, I’m wide awake at night, so it takes forever to crash.

Maybe your bed is in a bad spot—groundwater, radiation, whatever, I'm being serious.
My secret for waking up is a solid breakfast—muesli with melted chocolate in hot milk, paired with some upbeat salsa music. 🙂

I sleep the same way regardless of what bed I'm in.

I've always been against heavy breakfasts... I usually just use that window before lunch to detox a bit—lots of water, some fruit...

You wouldn't start a car without gas, yet people do it to their bodies all the time 😕 placidfalcon has a solid recipe for waking up 👍

Jacobs tastes less bitter to me.
Megan Morales5, I’ve just always been used to it, so it works for me...

Neither Tropicana nor coffee actually wakes me up. Honestly, it’s just walking the dog at 6:30 AM that does the trick.😁

Neither Volvic nor coffee actually wakes me up. A walk with the dog at 6:30 AM is what does the trick.😁

From what I gathered—if I'm following that other thread about the tsunami correctly—you don't eat anything until noon.😉 So, that comment wasn't even directed at you...

Speaking from my own experience, back when I was in college, I never felt particularly exhausted; sure, I slept, but that kind of rest and the way I felt in the morning is worlds apart from how it feels now that I’m working. I don't mean to downplay what students go through, but falling asleep after spending a day surfing or finishing up some tasks and hitting a one-hour run in the evening just hits differently.

Ugh... unnecessary conclusion 🙄
Look, you really have to distinguish between mental fatigue and physical exhaustion, because personally, I'm not sure which one would wipe me out more.

And it's not like all students are just sitting around, either; my entire friend group consists of women who train at least seven times a week while keeping up with our studies, and waking up in the morning is still a total nightmare. After a particularly grueling workout, I can't seem to drag myself out of bed before 11:00 AM, no matter how much sleep I managed to get.

Then there's the whole coffee thing—for instance, I don't drink coffee first thing in the morning because a cold splash of water to the face wakes me up better than that; I usually save it for a break between classes or when I have a heavy study session ahead. Honestly though, I don't notice any real boost in alertness or concentration, so it feels more like a placebo effect to me 🙂

Does Red Bull actually help anyone 🙂? It doesn't do anything for me 😁 ...haha

And if you think about it, if you've been drinking the exact same dose of coffee every single day for five years, wouldn't you expect it to stop having any impact on how awake you feel in the morning?

(If I went a bit off-topic, my apologies 😁 )

I didn't say every single student is lazy—just that some definitely are. Not that they aren't hitting the books, mind you, but they just don't touch sports. At all. I’m not sure what your major is, but most college programs here don't mandate physical education as a requirement—maybe there's some two-hour session on a Saturday morning that everyone conveniently skips because, well, nobody wants to be stuck on campus during the weekend when they could be heading home... Sport is supposed to make you feel good; if you can't even drag yourself out of bed by 11:00 AM after a workout, then you're either overdoing it or you've picked the wrong activity.

Now that you've had a moment to think about it—if you've been drinking the exact same amount of coffee every single day for five years, wouldn't that eventually affect how much it actually wakes you up in the morning?

Try going a full week without any coffee at all. You'll find your own answer to that question pretty quickly...

I find it incredibly difficult to wake up in the morning, no matter how much sleep I get beforehand; perhaps it’s due to my low blood pressure.
It is even worse if I have to get up immediately 😲 or rush out the door without eating breakfast.

I play professional sports, and since we're currently in the middle of the season, my training tempo is a bit more intense right now.

As for coffee, I don't actually drink it to wake myself up, but I am genuinely curious about how it affects people who have made it a ritual to have a cup every single morning. Is it true that you get those splitting headaches if you skip your caffeine fix? And does coffee work similarly to medication, where after a certain amount of time on a specific dose, you need to increase it because your tolerance builds up or something like that?😉

Ugh, in the mornings I don't just lack brain cells—I honestly forget I’m even a functioning human being. 😁

Usually, if my phone wakes me up, I can't even remember half the nonsense I was babbling.
Every other morning involves me spilling coffee and smashing a mug in the process.

If I actually have plans, I have to wake up at least two hours before I need to leave the house just to feel conscious.

And clearly, I can't get my sleep schedule right to save my life. It doesn't matter if I hit the hay at 11 PM or 5 AM. Whether I get four hours or eight, I'll still be staring at the ceiling at the wrong time the next night.

I hate being asked anything first thing in the morning.
I hate being jolted awake by anyone.

CONCLUSION: I am a total disaster in the AM.

Helpful tip: back when I was living with my parents, we had this unspoken rule where they wouldn't mess with me until I was actually awake. 😁

The phone thing is what kills me now—I know I’ve been talking, and I know who I was talking to, but I usually have zero clue what I actually said.
And every single time people ask if they woke me up, I just lie and say "nope, I've been up for ages." 😎 (I even told that crazy neighbor who called me at 5 AM 😁 that I was wide awake, mostly because I hadn't realized how early it actually was.
)
For years now, I've been trying to convince myself it's just a blood pressure thing.
Not like anyone actually buys that, though. 😕

I already gave you my take on the sports side of things—if you're feeling this wiped out even the morning after an evening workout, your training intensity might be a bit too high for your current state...

Regarding the coffee, yeah, the headaches are real, and yes, it's addictive.
