Moderators, I’m calling on you to start banning anyone who denies the 9/11 terrorist crimes committed by Islamist extremists or those peddling their lies. We owe it to the innocent victims who died, and honestly, we need to stop giving a platform to conspiracy theories that practically invite future terror attacks.

Just a reminder: the American delegation once walked out of a United Nations session in protest after Ahmedinejad started pushing that tired, antisemitic Islamist trope—claiming Jews brought down the towers and killed 4,000 innocent people just to frame Muslims.

When people defend these brutal terrorists—which even the U.S. Government opposes—they get a free pass to spread toxic propaganda here. It only deepens the divide for any potential future conflict with a backwards, clerical Iran. At this point, there's more than enough evidence out there about who actually carried out that attack.
Thanks

You’ve already had your answer on this thread. These kinds of discussions always devolve into a mess of conspiracy theories and finger-pointing. It’s always the same list of villains: the USA, the CIA, Masons, feminists, extremists, aliens, broccoli, lizards, Josipović, Obama, Merkel, or even deli meats... there isn't any logical reason or justification to single anyone out in a situation like this. 🙂

I suppose such a ban would constitute a form of censorship, which is something I personally feel inclined to avoid.

According to the WORLD PDF, the only thing explicitly prohibited is denying the Holocaust (which is also a legal obligation for media outlets registered here in the US), and it is standard practice to sanction the denial of genocide crimes that have been officially established and categorized as genocide (such as Srebrenica or Armenia).

Furthermore, the denial of widely recognized factual matters—for instance, the sovereignty of Israel or Mexico, or claims that Herceg-Bosna was a "fascist entity"—can only be penalized in exceptional circumstances, specifically if it is obvious from the context that such claims are being published solely out of trolling or provocative motives without adding any value to the discussion itself.

In the context of the debate regarding the Iranian president's speech at the United Nations, those specific circumstances did not arise, so there was no reason to sanction posts that were simply discussing or commenting on the views expressed by President Ahmedinejad.

The actions of an American delegation or the Government should be used as a yardstick for what, exactly? 🤷
Why should anyone blindly align themselves with them and their actions?

Look, I have my own views on 9/11, but using the behavior of some American delegation or the Government as an argument is just ridiculous.

btw.

Look, Ahmo didn't go on at the United Nations claiming Jews brought down the World Trade Center... so calling this headline "frequently" anything is a total stretch. This whole thread is just a textbook example of how people throw the word antisemitism around whenever they want...

Unless you're counting Americans as Semites. 🤷

Why? Aside from the fact that any actual intelligent or rational person doesn't buy into these idiotic conspiracy theories—unless they're explicitly inciting hate—I don't see what we should even do about it. Just let the idiots be idiots 🤷.

If someone wants to babble about how 9/11 was an inside job by Jews, Americans, or aliens, or claim that people just fell on knives in Srebrenica, they can talk all they want, provided they aren't breaking the forum rules or US laws.

Sorry, but that would definitely be breaking the rules. We see nicknames popping up constantly—or at least on a regular basis—representing those kinds of "intellectuals" who have nothing better to do than provoke everyone else with insane statements. It’s not even a discussion anymore; it’s just pure, unadulterated whining.

The examples you gave—saying people in Srebrenica just fell on knives, that Americans brought down the towers themselves, or that people in El Paso threw themselves into mass graves—that’s way more than just having an opinion. That’s straight-up an insult to common sense and to the victims.

And if you ask me, that breaks several forum rules. You just have to decide if it's just trolling or something even worse.

That’s why we have moderators to step in and penalize stuff like that if they decide a user is just posting garbage specifically to troll.

That’s an insult to common sense and to the victims.

Man, honestly, you can claim pretty much any opinion is offensive if you feel like it. But at that point, the only way out is to just avoid the topics and subforums where people are saying things you don't like.

And in my view, that breaks several forum rules; you just have to figure out if it's trolling or something worse.

And that’s something they gotta judge on a case-by-case basis.

I'm with you there. But let's be real, way fewer things actually get flagged. If someone were to say, "There wasn't even a crime at the rally, some crazy group of Americans just killed themselves protesting against their own leaders," if I were a mod, I'd kick them straight to the curb.

Just saying. I know that's up to the mods and involves a bit of personal judgment. I'm just pointing out that, in my book, that's pure trolling. They shouldn't be getting moved—they should be the ones getting removed from the rest of us.

Look, I'm not attacking anyone's decisions here; I'm just giving you my two cents. I'll always report stuff like that, and then let the mods handle it however they see fit based on their own call.

Then what's the point of the Alternative subforum? On the Natural Science and History sections, people stick to the mainstream, but Alternative is basically a playground for conspiracy theories.

The alternative is just another subforum like any other, though there was a period where it suffered from a serious lack of moderation.
I think we all have a pretty clear grasp of what freedom of speech actually means, but we also understand the difference between exercising that right and simply abusing it.
It’s a lot like how the fact that there isn't a specific law dictating exactly what you wear doesn't mean you have a free pass to walk around town completely naked.

That’s exactly why it exists. Look, if you actually want to have a serious debate about some non-mainstream theory over in, say, History, you better bring some actual evidence to the table. People who deny the Holocaust just because they skimmed one book by David Irving, or those 9/11 truthers who just watched Loose Change and other brainless garbage—they don't even need to bother. Stuff like that gets tossed straight into the trash immediately.

Thanks for the input.
I know this topic is messy and pretty controversial. Just hoping they handle it with some actual care and look at each case individually. 👍

The biggest issue isn't just opening these topics; it's that once they do, everything goes sideways. They have this knack for suffocating any legitimate discussion and derailing it onto the wrong track. I assume that’s what Anthony Perez9 was getting at. And here they are again, spreading their "faith" with the persistence of cultists! This is why I think it’s smart to keep those two irreconcilable worlds separate. Let's put it this way: would we tolerate creationists crashing an evolution thread in Natural Science, claiming the Earth is only 6,000 years old and that we're all falling for fake propaganda? Or would we allow people talking about ancient aliens and extraterrestrials in a History thread about ancient civilizations?

Well, quite a lot gets swept under the rug here, sometimes even more than is reasonable, if you ask me.
Unfortunately, most people just don't seem to grasp the fundamental distinction between actual free speech and simply being silenced.
In my experience, the complaints from forum users usually end up doing more harm than good, especially when they start targeting the moderators just because someone took things a bit too far.

That’s why back in 2006, Šemso Tanković, an SDA representative from the region, went on record claiming that American Jews were the masterminds behind the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City in 2001.

Honestly, I thought you were one of the moderators over at the Politics forum. 😕 Over there, people with these kinds of conspiracy theories are practically a prerequisite if you want to have any real conversation about things like Israel-Palestine. 🙂

Shadowjackal88 is just being a demagogue. 🥱

If we didn't have "conspiracy theorists" like Borg around, this whole politics section would be a total snooze fest... ☕

The only reason you guys even show up is for the "war" and to trade insults with "conspiracy theorists," "antisemites," "Islamists," whatever...
Without them, you wouldn't even know you're alive.
🙂Like I said before, you guys are all acting like toddlers...
