MPAA Rating: Rated R for strong sadistic violence/gore, sexuality and language.

It’s pretty wild seeing what American audiences are saying about this Rob Zombie flick—he basically swooped in and knocked those old-school classics like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Exorcist right off their thrones.

I mean, he almost crossed the line into just being pure, mindless splatter, but he somehow pulled it off...

There is a ton of sadism, blood, and violence here, plus those quick cuts that really crank up the intensity.

Definitely not for the faint of heart!

Honestly, he could have leaned harder into the trailer by focusing on those final hours of a serial killer's victims—it's pretty clear he was drawing inspiration from guys like Manson and Gacy.

It's intense, original, and—let's be honest—pretty twisted.

Honestly, a bit of a letdown for me. It’s gross, sure, but I wasn't exactly shaking in my boots. Phil makes the whole thing way too predictable. 3/5 stars. Just can't get into it anymore...

I don't know, I'm not sure I'd say he's really following in the footsteps of those classics, mostly because they barely show any blood at all—if they show any! They rely way more on building up suspense than just going for the shock factor.

To me, a Rob Zombie movie feels much more like a continuation of that Herschell Gordon Lewis tradition.

Alright, this one is strictly for the lovers of pure trash horror. If you have a weak stomach 🤮 or just zero sense of humor, 😂

you might want to steer clear. Anyway, I want to hear your thoughts on the film if you’ve actually sat through it. Personally? I was absolutely floored.

Also, if anyone happens to know of anything else in this specific vein—and please, don't suggest Evil Dead or The Cabin in the Woods—feel free to drop some recommendations my way so I can check them out.

I’m a huge fan of horror movies, but I have to admit—this one just didn't really do it for me...

Also, if anyone knows of anything similar in this genre (excluding Evil Dead or The Cabin in the Woods), please drop some names so I can check them out.

It didn't particularly blow me away; it felt like something I've seen before. Just another follower of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
Sheri Moon is the highlight here... Rob Zombie could have leaned into the eroticism just a bit more, provided he stayed within the bounds of good taste. 😁

Go watch Braindead by Peter Jackson.

Yeah, I’ve heard people say watching Braindead is absolute madness, but I haven't actually sat down to watch it yet.

I have to admit, my diet consists almost entirely of horror movies, but I also have to be honest: this one just didn't hit the mark for me. Man, maybe it’s because I was expecting a bit more substance?

Olivia Martinez3 said:so, let me know what you guys thought about the movie, if you've actually seen it. personally, I was pretty much obsessed.

the film feels kind of silly most of the time and doesn't really break out of its little box, but there’s this one scene where, while you're watching, you kinda feel like the maniac behind the camera is trying to make a point...

that execution of the cop who shows up to save the victims—that endless (like, seriously endless) camera pull-back followed by the sudden shot—it's cool. once the scene passes, though, you realize there isn't much to it and that Rob Zombie just had a brief moment of brilliance. it's a shame there weren't more moments like that in the movie, I guess.

you should check out "Wrong Turn." I think it's way, way worse than this one, but if you're into Redneck horror, you might actually dig it.

anyway, the last horror thing I watched was Suspiria (finally!), and man, it really is one of those absolute masterpieces of the genre.

Where does Braindead draw the line on good taste? 🙂
