To me, GVSB was absolutely phenomenal—easily the best band on the planet. They played everything from "Wilmington" and "Cruise Your New Baby" to "(I) Don't Got a Place" and all their hits. Scott was clearly trying to outdo Jon Spencer with that "Thank... you... very... fuckin'... much...." bit, and man, it was hot, we were drinking, dancing... just pure bliss. But then I hear the older crowd complaining that they were way better back in the nineties, that this current lineup isn't cutting it, and that they desperately miss Eli Janney (even though some guy stepped in and handled the bass and keys perfectly fine). Honestly, give me a break! My only real gripe was "Kitty-Yo," which is a terrible song; if they had played "Explicitly Yours" instead, it would have been perfection... but even so, it was an incredible night. 🙂
