I’m certain—and even my mom’s primary care doctor agrees—that she would still be with us if they had just moved her to the Infectious Disease Hospital immediately. She was in such bad shape, struggling with a really high fever. The staff at Vinogradska Hospital knew she had a urinary tract infection too, but they just sat on it until Monday because apparently, they didn't feel like administering antibiotics on a Sunday. They actually told me there was plenty of time. If she’d been at the Infectious Disease Hospital, they would have acted right away; they specialize exclusively in infectious diseases, so they actually know how to handle a patient presenting with a high fever and a bacterial infection. But over at vascular surgery in Vinogradska? All they knew was how to shamelessly lie and mock a critically ill patient. I just had to sit there and take it because we were waiting for her transfer to hematology. Once she got to hematology, they tried to do something, but even then, they seemed unsure of what steps to take. A colleague of my mom’s who works in microbiology asked me if they had only given her Medazol intravenously. So, it wasn't even an optimal treatment plan... it's obvious they don't know what they're doing or they just lack the necessary experience.

If she’d been at the CDC, they would’ve jumped on it right away since they deal exclusively with infectious diseases; they actually know how to handle someone with a high fever and a bacterial infection. Even once they got to hematology, they tried to do something, but even those people weren't sure what the move was. One of my mom's colleagues, a microbiologist, asked me if they had only given her Medtronic intravenously. So, either the therapy wasn't optimal because they clearly have no clue what they're doing, or they just don't have the experience.

You say they would've known how to act, but would they really, considering they're on strike too? Everything is moving so slow, they're skipping half the tests and stuff. Look, I'm no microbiology expert, but these things always happen on the weekend. It's always the same: it's an illness, it's the weekend, and you're stuck with the residents on call who barely have any experience yet. You probably should have insisted on a transfer elsewhere under your own responsibility.
I get that this is tough for you, especially if you feel like your mom could have recovered after the surgery.
Everyone I work with who went for exams back in September or October says the same thing—you can tell they're striking. They skip tests, they're sluggish, the whole bit.
So, here's my advice: if it isn't a life-or-death emergency, go to the weekend urgent care clinic and wait until Monday when your regular doctor is back in office.

Transferring her to the CDC... I mean, the staff at Mount Sinai really should have called the CDC ahead of time and let them know she was coming, especially since Mom was already an inpatient there. But honestly, it felt like they were just too lazy to bother. The doctor on call for vascular surgery that Sunday was just some junior surgeon, not even a resident. Mom had already been on IV antibiotics at the Mount Sinai Medical Center pulmonary ward back in '99 when she dealt with that embolism. So, I guess I just assumed they’d know how to react this time around, even if it was a different department within the same hospital. I didn't even consider the CDC as an option back then. But then, seeing them move her over to hematology, it was obvious they weren't exactly pros at administering antibiotics. They clearly lacked the experience—experience you'd definitely find at the CDC.

D

I went to the clinic in Tel Aviv over on Nemetov 2. The first segment is $300, then it’s $800 for each following one. Contrast is $133

I personally get my checkups at the Mayo Clinic, but according to the latest issue of Lake! (from last week's USA Today), doctors actually recommend going to Mount Sinai if you want treatment there: specifically with Dr. Michael Ries or Professor Thomas Baudoin.
Anyway, both the Mayo Clinic and Mount Sinai are fine, it's just that there's a strike happening right now (so I'm stuck waiting too)...
(By the way, they told me at the Mayo Clinic that things aren't busy at the ENT department over at Mercury... interesting...)

You can still see Dr. Michael Ries privately during the strike if you want to book those hospital scans, though why bother when the wait times are already this bad?

Could you tell me what the strength of their machine is? Is it a 1.5 T?

Yeah, 1.5 T 🙂

I think I booked around October 18th, but they gave me appointments for the 29th and 30th. I had three segments to scan, so I couldn't get it all done in one day.

People, you’ve gone way too far with the off-topic chatter. Please just stick to the actual topic: doctor recommendations and specialist advice. Thanks! 🙂

Does anyone have a recommendation for a solid dermatologist out in California? I really need to get my moles checked out.

Hey,

I'm looking for some recommendations for an endocrinologist around Washington, D.C., San Francisco, or San Diego. Private practice is fine—honestly, I wouldn't mind hospital options either.

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some recommendations for a good primary care doctor in the Brooklyn or Queens area. I’m just not really clicking with my current physician, so after all these years, I’ve finally decided it’s time for a change! Does anyone know of a great doctor who is currently accepting new patients? It would be such a huge help! 🙂

Does anyone have a recommendation for a solid gynecologist covered by insurance? I'm looking for someone in the western part of the city—anywhere near Brooklyn, some small town, USA, Santa Monica, Spanish Hill, or the Neighborhood area. Thanks.

Does anyone happen to know where neurosurgeon Marin Stančić sees private patients? Does anyone have any leads?

Could someone please recommend a solid private ENT specialist? I need help with my ear, assuming I can't get it sorted out with a simple ear cleaning at my GP's office. Just one request—please, anything but a clinic in the Brooklyn neighborhood.

I’ve been weighing the idea of getting some work done on my upper and lower eyelids, though I'm finding it quite difficult to decide which surgeon to trust... does anyone have any recommendations or perhaps a few warnings so I at least know who to steer clear of?

I was going to suggest Ries, but if you're avoiding the Neighborhood, I'm out of ideas...

Dr. Tom Baudoin is honestly just incredible, though he does work out of the Vineyard district, even if he sees patients privately too... and oh, Prof. Zoran Lajtman over at Mercury Hospital is also just wonderful😉

Is anyone there? Honestly, I'm kind of in a rush here... I have no clue where to even start. And I guess there are quite a few of us who could really use that info if you shared it. 🙂
