Quick question for the group: do you guys actually track everything you watch? Like, do you keep a running list or anything?

I’m estimating I’ve clocked in somewhere around 4,500 movies at this point. I used to be pretty obsessive about logging them back when I was fifteen, but I haven't really kept up with it lately😢. If that number is even remotely accurate—and I'm pretty sure it is—and we assume an average runtime of two hours per flick, that means I’ve spent 375 straight days just staring at a screen. That’s basically a full year of my life gone without ever sleeping. Jesus!

What’s your typical pace looking like? How many movies are you hitting daily, weekly, or monthly?

Total number of movies? Honestly, I have no clue!
I track my theater trips, and it’s usually about 40 a year... this year is looking to be around 40 as well. Plus there's everything on streaming, friends' collections, and Microsoft, which I don't even bother counting...

A log? Honestly, I wish I kept a record of every movie I’ve watched. It isn't strictly necessary, though—unlike most people, I actually remember titles, directors, and all those details without trying. But for the sake of review, it might be useful...
I don't really bother with the movie theater, since they rarely show anything I actually care about... (honestly, the blockbusters are exhausting). Luckily, we have TV and Microsoft (such a fantastic format!). Over the last three months, I'd say I've gone through two or three films a day.
All in all, the number is pretty substantial. I won't exaggerate, but I'm sure it hits a thousand.

Still, keeping a log is a fine idea. From here on out, I'm doing it. Definitely.

Around 5,000. I used to keep track religiously until about a year ago, but lately, I’ve probably only sat through 20 films. Honestly, the era of quality cinema seems to have passed, so I don't bother much anymore—unless something truly exceptional comes along.

I was honestly pretty shocked this past Saturday when I realized I’ve only rented 388 movies from the local video store so far... It feels like such a low number to me. If I factor in the maybe 500 films I've seen in theaters—though, if I'm underestimating my rental habits, maybe I am too for the cinema, too—plus a massive amount of stuff just watched on TV... but I don't even really count those because I usually just end up watching whatever happens to be on cable or streaming... Total count: probably closer to 2,000.

I tried keeping track of everything on IMDb, but honestly, it became such a chore. Logging every single movie felt way too tedious, so the whole thing kind of fell apart...

I’ve got about 950 logged—you know, the usual breakdown with the title, credits, director, and my own rating from one to six—but honestly, I’d say I’ve actually sat through another 300 or 400 on top of that. I started keeping a formal list back around '97... though I’ve been watching movies since the mid-80s, really getting into the groove of it toward the end of that decade.

I only recently stumbled upon this whole concept through some discussions here on the forum. Honestly, I’m a little 😲 . I have to say, I really respect the sheer discipline and organization it takes for people to maintain such a detailed viewing log; meanwhile, I can't even tell you what I watched last week, let alone how much or when.

I started making a list of all the horror movies I've seen, but honestly, once I scrolled through a few pages just trying to remember what I could, I just gave up...

566 since mid-October 2005. But honestly, ever since I started college, I barely even watch them anymore.🙂

No, but I’ve definitely seen plenty of them before! 🤷

It’s funny how academia can just drain the life out of you. If I were in your shoes, I’d probably consider dropping out next year or at least switching to part-time classes.😉

What kind of advice would you give to the younger generation? 🙂

Right now, I'm sitting at nearly 1,200.
The pace has definitely slowed down lately... life just gets in the way, you know? Work, my girlfriend, all these new responsibilities...
Back when I was in college, I was watching way more...
Still, I make sure to keep the list of rated films updated and organized. It matters to me...

So, I’m figuring I probably watch at least one movie every single day. There’s gotta be five thousand of them out there worth seeing. Out of those, maybe 50 actually hit the spot for me. I write scripts and leave ratings too. I don't bother with full-on reviews because, honestly, I don't always have the patience for the endless arguments that come with them. A rating is just my thing—just my own unprofessional opinion, for whatever that's worth.

3258.

Wait, hold up—I think I’m actually at 3259. Does counting short films count toward the total?

(Just kidding, obviously. I couldn't care less about any of this.)

I usually watch about one or two movies a week, every single year... which would put me at roughly 50 films annually...

I’ve gotta hand it to these "accountants"... it's basically Mission Impossible...

I was just wondering... do you guys strictly track movie stats... or are you counting other things too? Like, just general life stuff...

"Oh, please. Who's actually crazy enough to keep a log?" That would be my contribution to this thread if there weren't so many of you out there meticulously tracking everything. Personally, I don't keep any kind of list. I don't even bother remembering the movies I watch unless they’re truly exceptional. To me, that's fine—it means I’ll never run out of things to watch, whereas you organized types end up bickering the moment you hit a dry spell and realize you've run out of ideas. 😉
