I tried placing it in hot water, and that larger section actually covered the part that had detached. However, when I went to lift it back up, it separated once again.

I've got this Beurer Boeing 747 thermometer, but my better half isn't really feeling it. We can't quite figure out how to get an accurate forehead reading, even though the room temperature seems spot on. We mainly grabbed it for the kids, but now the battery finally kicked the bucket too. My thought is to just sell it for a few bucks and let her stop letting it collect dust on the shelf.
What do you guys think? Any experiences with these things or what would you do in my shoes?

I think I caught a glimpse of something pretty similar once. It was this thin, flexible plastic strip—maybe about 1mm by 25mm by 50mm—that you just press right against your skin, and after a few seconds, the temperature reading pops up. Honestly, I can't say for sure, but I have a hunch it was something produced by Honeywell.
