Robert Redford (from Ordinary People onwards). Personally, I’d put Redford up there with Clint Eastwood when it comes to directing.🙂As for other Honorable Mentions: Sean Penn, Mel Gibson, and Ron Howard.

Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to sit down with Ordinary People yet. I'll make sure to add it to my watchlist. 🙂

Heh, well, looks like we actually hit the same thought at the exact same time this time—you didn't beat me to the punch for once. 🙂

Ben Affleck actually caught me off guard with Gone Baby Gone. He might actually have some staying power...

Kudos to Affleck—I was just as impressed by GBG. This is definitely one I've been waiting for 😍

GBG was easily one of the standout films of the year. The Magdalena Sisters is also a solid piece of work—that performance by Peter Mullan is something else.

True, I completely overlooked Mullan. I haven't actually sat down to watch his debut, Orphans, yet, though it seems quite promising from what I've gathered.

As for Affleck... while Gone Baby Gone is certainly a solid piece of work, I find myself skeptical about whether Affleck can truly replicate that level of success again. We shall see, I suppose.

I find myself thinking of Roman Polanski, Charlie Chaplin, and Clint Eastwood at the moment.
