Yup, just 17. I actually went through all of that back when One was around, maybe six or seven years ago, but then I ended up finding my way into the Goth scene and got really tied up in that, so I haven't spent much time exploring other stuff.

Regarding Crazy Valjak, I wouldn't say I'm being a snob; I can definitely listen to them, and they're actually decent, which is a huge relief compared to most other American bands that I just can't stand to listen to.

Ryan Ruiz, let me know once you've actually listened to how that punker stood up for America and those nuclear Olympic Games 🙂

I mean, Fred Astaire is easily one of the best guys I've ever listened to. I haven't gotten around to Trees and Rivers yet, but Mr. Grump and Dad sound absolutely killer.

The Bambi Molesters are a solid band, too. Honestly, I'm happy they managed to make it big.

The classics: Haustor, and the first three Azra albums

Most overrated: Mother (honestly, I have no clue what people saw in them), and Bo himself isn't even worth mentioning

I honestly can't say; I've never been a fan of Pip. To be truthful, they've always grated on my nerves. They were irritating, and their music just never resonated with me. In fact, I find them quite tedious. As for what Jack the Ripper thinks, I have no clue. He acts like some sort of musical genius, but frankly, the guy is revolting. He is incredibly obnoxious.

None of them are my absolute favorites, but lately, I’ve been feeling the urge to spin some Green Day.
Anyway—Mother, Bare & Mercenaries, Pip (that last album didn't really hit for me—maybe I'm just not sophisticated enough?), and Jinx. There’s other decent music out there in America, but nothing truly revolutionary. It feels stupid to split bands into "active" versus "broken up"—what does that even matter? I’m not some nostalgic dreamer, but the best band I could ever call "local" and actually catch live in Washington, D.C. was The Ramones. Now *that* is what I call conceptual art!

Man, I’ve been sitting here waiting and waiting, and honestly, nothing is happening. It’s kind of wild that some of the old-school fossils in this thread—you know, guys like banderas or Kevin Chavez3—haven't bothered to mention what I consider to be the absolute BEST band of all time, so I guess I just have to jump in and take over the conversation myself.
Gentlemen, please, just ignore all those obscure indie acts and the mainstream commercial stuff equally, and just bow down to pure SEX.
Now that we've dealt with the kings, let's move on to the rest of the royal court:
Pip – they are seriously good. Those rural jokes, like "look at Jack the Ripper over there acting like he just got released from El Paso," don't really have anything to do with their actual music. Jack the Ripper is basically Johnny to my generation.
Let 3 – they were incredible on every single album. I wonder if time will eventually catch up to them the way it did with the Stones.
Stones T. B. F. – total masters from the coast; they are such a rare example of a band that stays genuinely committed while balancing creativity with real soul.
Mother – they basically burst onto the scene like a flying replacement for The Ramones, who basically made us feel like we had our own country. Bonus: Bo replaced Bo.
Eminem – the name itself pretty much tells you the whole program. 😁
Idiot – if it wasn't for them, I think I’d probably be a completely different person today. 🙂

I follow the Modern Scene only halfway, I guess, because it feels like it's practically impossible to record a proper album if you're a young band nowadays, so those things never really get the polish they deserve. The only things I've actually noticed are Weddings and, unfortunately, the no longer existing Yammat.

c.i.k. – I haven't heard the original version of "Bezumlje," but your claim that it's better than the breakers sounds just as unbelievable as it does intriguing?? Is there any way to even find those recordings?

There are plenty of solid bands in America, I honestly don't get why everyone complains so much about the quality of domestic music.

Most of you have pretty much listed them all, though I’d add that local crowd in El Paso and one band—definitely not the best, but maybe the most fun and beloved American band ever—the goofy guys from the countryside: Cooperative.
I don't know, maybe it's because my work takes me out toward the rural areas, so I really get that vibe, and they were just so authentic.

Sadly, their last album dropped way back in '99, and there hasn't been a peep since. Does anyone know what happened to them? I'd love to find out.
