Mediterranean vibes

That movie is freaking legendary. It picked up an Oscar back in the nineties. I wonder if anyone actually watches it over in Seattle?

Honestly, this is easily one of my all-time favorite movies. I mean, that’s really all I’ve got to say about it! I don't have a DivX copy lying around, though, so I guess I'm not much help here!😉

This movie really made my 1993 memorable. It leans into a few stereotypes—clumsy Zabari and all that (imagine if someone made a similar flick about the Wehrmachtovac)—but the soundtrack and overall vibe are just wonderful. From what I gather, director Salvatores is quite an activist, much like Nanni Moretti, which becomes pretty obvious by the end of the film...

So, I just sat down and gave it another watch, and man, I gotta say, it hit me just as hard the second time around. It was absolutely fantastic.

Do you guys remember this one??

Ehm... am I really the only one who couldn't get into this movie? To me, it felt way too reliant on stereotypes—the scope is just too broad and frankly a bit cliché. It doesn't really dig into any specific, nuanced emotions; instead, it seems to just grab whatever feeling happens to be lying around at the moment. It’s also just a little TOO much of a crowd-pleaser—I mean, you've got soldiers playing soccer because, heaven forbid, director Salvatores isn't making movies for the "everyman" and his little passions. Even the occupiers are weirdly embraced, and then you have the soldiers, far from home, suddenly finding themselves 🙂

Personally, I thought the movie was great. Sure, it’s technically a comedy, but you don't really burst out laughing at any specific moment (or maybe just once)...
...but instead, you're just sitting there with a constant grin on your face and a little giggle running through you the whole time.

Once the credits roll, you're just left feeling good.

It might be a bit late to the party, but yeah, I’ve already got a copy on DivX.

There's just so much soul in this one. Such a breath of fresh air compared to those typical Hollywood blockbusters...
