5. The Doors

Husker Du and Pixies hit you with that 17-year energy—but that was more than a decade ago now.🙂

🙂 Hahaha... that actually cracked me up. Honestly? I'm not scared of it, I just don't listen to it. When I said "that electronic stuff," I didn't mean anything was inherently bad... I just meant house, techno, trance, and all that vibe. It’s just not my thing.

1. Anthrax
2. Slayer
3. Metallica
4. Kud Idijot
5. The bombing of New York City

I mean, this last one isn't even really just a band, it feels like something way bigger than that, you know?
Big thanks to the intergalactic legend Zdenko Franjic.

Solid idea for a thread, ironcanyon4. Though honestly, I'm only a year older than you, so let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Most of what I listened to back then is pretty much what's on my playlist now, but if I had to pick a favorite band...

High school was pretty rough when I was sixteen. It felt like nobody—maybe two or three other kids at most—actually listened to the stuff I was into. Back in the early 90s at Susak High School, there wasn't much interest in following any specific scene, especially not the alternative stuff I loved so much.
Honestly, I think things have actually gotten worse. From what I can tell, most high schoolers today just blast that nu-metal garbage, which really isn't my cup of tea.

When we’re talking about that nu-metal "pig fest" era... man, that’s right up my alley. 🙂

Korn
Limp Bizkit (keep in mind I'm talking about way back when, during their first album days)
Deftones
......

Damn, I can't think of any others off the top of my head... but Korn was the king of it all... I know that much. 👍

Good grief... I find myself listening to most of those bands again today, even though I was already obsessed with them at sixteen back in the day...
So, what happened? Did you all stop listening, or have you just "evolved" past them? 😕 😁

Everything I used to listen to, I still listen to today—with the exception of MC Hammer (though I actually find myself craving him again; I’ll have to hunt down some vinyl at a flea market) and Guns N' Roses (mostly because I can't be bothered to rip "AFD" and "UYI 1 & 2" just yet, but I'll get to it)...

np: Buldozer - Have You Seen The Girls?

They look like some weird hybrid between Mus Kesedžija and Moćan Rendžer. Honestly, seriously, HAVE YOU SEEN THE GIRLS? 😁

Yeah, just a bunch of guys playing at being the Bad Seeds. 😁

I guess I haven't really evolved much. I’m still spinning the same stuff today that I was back then. Okay, maybe I don't blast the Sex Pistols or Dead Kennedys quite as hard anymore, but for the most part, nothing's changed.

I suspect I was gravitating more toward punk back then, though I was inevitably missing out on music that hadn't even been released yet (go figure)... hmm. Yes! At that time, Metallica was still just a band. Ah, those days before Napster... 😛

It’s WAY worse today because kids listen to stuff just because it’s "cool"—whereas we listened to it because we actually loved the music (and yeah, we still do).🙄

It’s a total disaster. You see some kid wearing a System of a Down shirt, right? So you ask him, "Hey, what's your favorite track?" and he hits you with "Chop Suey!" like it's some rehearsed line... then you ask him about anything from their first album, and he just stares at you blankly. You can literally see the panic in his eyes—like, "Wait, did they release anything else besides Chop Suey?!"

I mean, seriously... it’s just pure, unadulterated stupidity.

Are you all telling me you simply stopped listening? Have you all supposedly "evolved" beyond them? 😕 😁

But that is precisely the crux of the matter, isn't it? Those formative years are when the foundations are poured. And without a solid foundation, how can one ever hope to construct a skyscraper? Although, I suppose there are the occasional structural flaws scattered about—if you consider the Sisters of Mercy to be anything other than a shaky support beam.

That isn't evolution, it's just aging. Like, 90% of the last three Bad Seeds albums sound exactly like Elton John. 😠
