I actually dug the music..
I’d love to get my hands on that soundtrack.

George Clooney was alright.. even if he isn't usually my cup of tea..
He worked fine for this one..

The plot itself felt a bit sluggish..
hehe 😁 I actually drifted off toward the end (though, let's be honest, that was mostly because I was exhausted), so I had to finish the rest the next day 😁

I was hoping for a deeper message.
I was expecting some kind of "message" similar to the film SPHERE
because I got the impression that this version of "Solaris" was leaning toward that concept...
(specifically, the idea that whatever you imagine manifests physically)...

anyway... I really want to see the original.
I wonder what the odds are of the original "Solaris" movie airing on TV anytime soon?
Given how many sci-fi flicks there are, probably slim to none..
Or at least, until HRTL gets its act together..
🙂

- Something must have triggered it.
- What? Who?
- Me. I was just thinking about it. The explosive: it's just flashed inside my mind. It must have triggered it.

Man, that movie was just straight-up boring as hell!!!👎 😠
I couldn't even make it to the credits without checking out, so honestly, I have no clue what the full plot was even about... pathetic, I know...

Such a great movie 👍—it actually inspired me to go back and read the book too.

Four years since my last entry... 🙂
Watched it again last night. Still haven't checked out the original or read the book.
Stevo directs so damn well that if he had taken Ratkajeve under his wing, he would've made... well, okay. 🙄

The pacing is just right—enough room to process everything without missing a beat. Pure gold!

Man, I really don't have anything profound to say here.

And one last thing. 🙂

I had to pull this thread back from the dead... 😁

Just finished watching the movie—it was alright. It didn't blow my mind, but it’s definitely worth your time...

Rating: 7/10. 👍

I watched it and my first thought was, "how bizarre a film," but now I realize I'm still reeling from the experience. Part of it has to be the score and those haunting shots of that strange planet. It has this hypnotic quality, much like the scenes featuring the sun in the film Sunshine.

I was actually going to skip this one just out of pure principle, but since I’m officially in my "Soderbergh phase," I figured it was time to finally give it a shot.

Honestly? It’s not half bad! I really dig that slower pace and that quiet, almost hypnotic vibe... it really pulls you into the story. Even though it leans pretty hard into typical Hollywood tropes—and it's nowhere near what Tarkovsky intended (putting aside the Lemov stuff, his ideas haven't exactly translated perfectly to the big screen 😬 )—it still has its own unique charm and is definitely worth a watch.

Soderbergh has such an unconventional path for a director. He started out as this indie auteur with totally fresh, original ideas, and then suddenly he's jumping straight into massive blockbuster territory. Of course, to get there, he had to deal with some struggles (Kafka) and some total misses (Schizopholis) before hitting it big with his next hits (Traffic, Erin Brockovich).

He established himself as a master of commercial hits, only to pivot right back to that indie vibe. And if I remember correctly, he even announced he was quitting filmmaking altogether! But then he gets this idea to shoot on an iPhone and keeps rolling, producing a string of little successes.

Given his style, Solaris isn't such a weird choice, but to me, it still feels like he's in a bit of an experimental phase that's, let's just say, only halfway successful.
