Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

From what I can see, there isn't a dedicated thread for this movie yet, so I decided to get the ball rolling and start one here.



It’s common knowledge by now that Marvel has been building its cinematic universe by focusing on their heavy hitters; following the footsteps of Hulk, Iron Man, and Thor, we’re finally getting Captain America. All these individual storylines are essentially paving the way for their massive crossover event, the Avengers, which is slated to hit theaters in 2012.

Marvel Studios has officially titled this installment Captain America: The First Avenger, with the narrative set against the backdrop of World War II. Taking the helm as director is Joe Johnston (the man behind Jumanji, The Rocketeer, and The Wolfman).

Here is the confirmed cast list and the roles they will be playing:

Chris Evans - Captain America
Bucky Barnes - Bucky Barnes
Peggy Carter - Peggy Carter
Hugo Weaving - Red Skull
Stanley Tucci - Chester Phillips
Dr. Abraham Erskine - Dr. Abraham Erskine
Toby Jones - Arnim Zola
Howard Stark - Howard Stark
Nick Fury - Nick Fury
Dum Dum Dugan - Dum Dum Dugan

Production actually kicked off last week over in England, and the release date is currently set for July 22, 2011.

I'm genuinely curious how he’ll pull this off—Red Skull is easily my favorite Marvel villain.👍

Those guys in the last photo have to be from HYDRA—you can clearly see their logo on the motorcycles.

I honestly think it’s just plain stupid that they cast the exact same actor to play two different Marvel characters in these movies. Like, were they really that desperate? Couldn't they have just found someone else for once...

Man... let's be real, the fourth installment is already a total disaster, so I seriously doubt anyone’s going to lose sleep over having the same actor back again. Honestly, what bugs me way more is seeing Reynolds juggling both Deadpool and Green Lantern at the same time; it feels like we're stuck in this endless waiting game for Deadpool just because he's busy playing Green Lantern first.

But personally, I feel like Green Lantern actually has the potential to be a decent movie, so I'm not really sweating it.

Could be... though personally, I'd much rather sit through Deadpool.

Wait, wasn't it said they passed on him for the Deadpool role specifically because of his Green Lantern gig, and now they're looking for someone else?

Green Lantern is currently in post-production and slated for next year, while Deadpool is set for 2012. Everybody, chill.

Honestly, what a bummer... he would have been absolutely perfect for that part. 😢

Joe Johnston? Honestly, I wasn't a fan of his "Wolfman" at all. The movie just felt completely soulless, and visually? It didn't really do much for me either. At this rate, I've got a feeling this upcoming film isn't going to be anything to write home about.

Take a look... So, I was revisiting *The Rocketeer* from '91 the other day... man, talk about a total nostalgia trip. It’s one of those movies that just hits different when you realize how much heart they actually put into it—no big CGI explosions or mindless chaos, just pure, old-school adventure vibes. It’s got that breezy, pulp-fiction feel that feels almost extinct nowadays... honestly, it’s kind of refreshing compared to the non-stop sensory overload we get in modern blockbusters. It’s set in this gorgeous, stylized version of LA back in the day, and everything about the aesthetic—the planes, the suits, the whole retro-future look—is just spot on. It doesn't try too hard to be "gritty" or "dark," which is probably why it holds up so well. It’s just a simple, well-told story about a guy finding himself through a jetpack and some serious guts. If you haven't seen it in a while, or if you missed it during the original run, it's definitely worth a late-night watch... just something smooth to sink into.It feels a bit more aligned with the Avengers vibe...
