Eat, Pray, Love(2010)
-based on a true story

image

A movie based on the book of the same name—though calling it a travel memoir might be more accurate—by Elizabeth Gilbert.
After realizing her marriage was essentially a dead end and wasn't giving her anything she actually needed, Elizabeth decides to reconnect with her first true passion: traveling. She commits to a year-long journey to "find herself" and try to fix her shattered sense of balance... First, she spends four months in Rome, then moves on to an ashram in India, and finally wraps things up in Bali.

Release Date: August 13, 2010 (in the USA)
Director: Ryan Murphy (who's worked on Running with Scissors and some episodes of Nip/Tuck and Glee)
Genre: drama acting cast
Cast: Julia Roberts (who also produced this alongside Brad Pitt), Javier Bardem, Billy Crudup, Richard Jenkins, Viola Davis, James Franca...

I don't know if you guys have read the book, or how much you liked it... personally, I thought it was beautiful! Her writing style, the way she lived through everything on the road and before it... honestly, the whole undertaking is pretty incredible when you think about it.
How many of us actually wake up in the morning with the actual determination to overhaul our entire lives? Most of us just leave our deepest desires sitting on a shelf somewhere, thinking, "yeah, I'll get to that one day"...

As for the movie, I'm not so sure how good it'll turn out... while the cast is absolutely stellar 👍, the director and the writers don't exactly inspire massive confidence in me... 👎 but we'll see... I'm crossing my fingers that it's at least half as good as the book!!!

What do you all think??

Man, I have literally devoured this book three times already—I absolutely love it, and honestly, whenever I’m feeling down, picking it up always puts me in a better mood... 😁
I am seriously counting down the days until I can finally see the movie version. 👍

I haven't actually sat down to read the book, but I thought the movie was pretty good. To be honest, those first thirty minutes where she’s just completely losing her mind were incredibly boring—I almost turned it off right then and there. But things definitely pick up once the travel starts... my favorite part has to be the "eat" sequence while they're in Italy... though I guess India and Bali are kind of meh 😁

To hasn't been particularly thrilling for me, I suppose; it feels a bit tedious, and honestly, it’s dragging on much longer than it probably should. I’d say, maybe, a 6/10.

Ever since I finished reading that book—which was honestly such a disaster—I haven't had any desire to see the movie. I feel bad for you, Javier Bardem, but even for you... 😛

The only redeeming qualities of this movie are the incredible soundtrack and those mouthwatering Italian dishes that make you want to sprint straight to Panera Bread just to get a taste...🤣

Bad, just plain bad... and honestly? Boring as hell. I really, truly wanted to believe they wouldn't mess up the book adaptation this badly, but clearly, I was being naive!
The pacing is agonizingly slow, yet somehow it still feels like it's missing half the story... the actors look like they'd rather be anywhere else—just totally lifeless and forced. All in all, it’s a massive letdown.
Not worth your time...

I rarely post on this forum, but I felt an actual physical need to vent because this thing was even worse than the movie. It was so tedious, long-winded, and hollow that the only thing I could compare it to is Sex in the United Arab Emirates 2. I usually like Julia Roberts, but her character was written so poorly she actually turned me off, and since Javier Bardem is the only reason to even watch the film, it’s a tragedy he barely shows up until the last twenty minutes.👎 The whole thing tries way too hard to pass off some pseudo-intellectual nonsense about the meaning of life as deep philosophy, but it's just pure gibberish.🙄🙄 Honestly, if I had intended to read the book after watching this disaster, not even God Himself could have forced me.☕

In this movie, my absolute favorites were definitely Javier Bardem and that soundtrack by Bebel Gliberto 😍
Everything else was just okay, I guess 😬
The plot felt kind of empty to me, especially since her whole journey and spiritual transformation didn't really feel believable...

What a movie... if your life feels like it’s stuck in neutral... you should seriously consider traveling... go grab some incredible food in Italy... spend some time praying in India... and eventually, you'll find yourself listening to stories from Javier 🙂 Hahahhaha and then that little squirrel goes and wraps up the chocolate 🙂

Boring, predictable, and way too long.

The only part worth watching was the food scenes—everything else was a total waste of time.

So, what does she actually do for a living? Where's all the money for these trips coming from, especially with the economy being such a mess right now? It just doesn't add up... unless it's all just pretty pictures of different places.

So, get this: the author who actually wrote the book the movie is based on? She only went on those trips because her future publisher basically cut her a check upfront.
Basically, her bosses paid for the whole trip just so she could go out there and "find herself" or whatever.

Plus, the acting was so unconvincing it actually made me angry. All things considered, it was a total disaster in my book.

Even that part where she’s just folding laundry in the basement? Wild.🤦
I could probably make a movie based on my life too.

Honestly, it felt way too long to me. They hyped it up so much I felt like I was missing out if I didn't watch it.
