So, get ready because Shrek Forever After is that big 2010 animated fantasy-family flick from DreamWorks Animation, and it actually serves as the fourth and final chapter in the whole Shrek series! The movie was directed by Mike Mitchell. It hit the big screens in the USA on May 21, 2010, while the premiere over here in America happened on May 27 that same year. During production, everyone was calling it "Shrek goes Fourth." And just like the previous movies we all know and love, the creators are leaning hard into those classic fairy tale vibes.

Hey, quick heads-up for anyone reading: the following text totally spoils the plot!
After dealing with endless adventures, fighting off dragons, playing hero to save the princess, and basically everything else you can imagine, Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers) has settled into this domestic life, becoming a total family man—though, let’s be honest, his daily routine has gotten pretty boring, hasn't it? Feeling like he's missing those wild, old-school days, he makes a deal with the sneaky Rumpelstiltskin (played by Walt Dohrn). The plan was for Rumpelstiltskin to give him back one day from his past, but the guy is a total crook and tricks him into giving up the very day Shrek was born! Suddenly, Shrek is tossed into a completely different dimension—an alternate reality where he and Princess Fiona (voiced by Cameron Diaz) never even met! In this weird version of things, Shrek is actually an endangered species and Rumpelstiltskin is the king of the world. Now, if Shrek and Fiona can manage to share a true love's kiss before sunrise, everything might just snap back to normal, but if they don't... well, Shrek is toast. To make sure things stay messy, Rumpelstiltskin sends a whole gang of witches to hunt him down.



Shrek Forever After is a 2010 animated fantasy-family film, and it is the fourth and final film in the Shrek series. It was released in theaters on May 20, 2010 in Russia, on May 21 in the United States, Pakistan, Canada, India and on May 28 in Vietnam. It was released on June 17, 2010 in Australia and Sri Lanka and on July 2, 2010 in the United Kingdom. It was released in 3-D and IMAX 3-D theaters.

Just like the Shrek films that came before it, the story plays around with those classic fairy tale themes. The trailer was actually paired with Avatar. Another trailer popped up online on March 12, 2010, which was later shown alongside 3D screenings of Alice in Wonderland and then later with How to Train Your Dragon.

The movie got a bit of a mixed bag from critics; some folks were saying it actually beats Shrek the Third, but they also felt it didn't quite hit the massive heights of the original Shrek or Shrek 2.

Even though Shrek 4 isn't quite hitting those massive popularity heights like the third installment of the Toy Story series did—at least if you're just looking at the IMDb scores—I am still honestly counting down the days until it drops!

Right now, there isn't really a decent, high-quality version out there besides some grainy cam rip, but man, I am seriously looking forward to finally getting my hands on a crisp DivX copy sometime soon.

Really hoping this one hits the mark... the third one was such a slog, honestly pretty unwatchable. Total disaster.

Honestly, the first one was a masterpiece, and even the second one was great—just a tiny bit weaker than the original, but still awesome. But that third one? It was just bad. Like you said, it was super boring. I actually sat down to rewatch the first two today, but I gave up halfway through the third one because it's just not on that level at all. I am seriously praying that Shrek 4 turns things around and beats the third one!

Has anyone managed to catch a Cam version yet? And what are the initial vibes like?

Personally, I think Shrek 2 beats the original... it’s got more energy, and that ending is gold... but hey, to each their own.

Same here. It's easily the best one in the series. That "I Need a Hero" sequence is legendary...

This one would be right behind it for me... which means it's actually good. Miles better than Shrek the Third, which was total trash...

But honestly, you know why I lean towards the first one? It’s because it has this sense of calm and a super straightforward story, kind of like how Alien or Predator have that focused, steady vibe, whereas the sequels just spiral into total chaos! So, if I had to put it this way, I’d say Shrek 2 is just a tiny bit weaker for me, even though there are moments where it’s just as great as how Aliens feels just a hair below Alien.

I’m with you—Alien beats Aliens (even if Cameron directed the latter) because the plot is unpredictable and there's still all that mystery surrounding the Alien, just like in the first Predator.😁

If we're talking best sequels, I'd put Terminator 2 at the top. Maybe it's just because it was the first of the Terminator movies I saw, and man, it blew my mind.🙏The original is also phenomenal and way darker.🙂

So, do you guys think it actually holds up better than Shrek the Third?

Does anyone actually know when they’re pulling Shrek 4 from theaters? And more importantly, when can we expect a DivX rip to drop online? Because honestly, man, this thing is a total disaster—it's almost unwatchable.

I’ve no clue how much longer Shrek 4 will be playing in theaters, but right now it’s sitting at $369,779,432. Honestly, that’s not a bad haul at all, but am I the only one who doubts it'll actually top the massive numbers from Shrek the Third, which pulled in $798,958,162, or even Shrek 2, which was an absolute beast with $919,838,758? At the very least, if things go well, maybe it could tie or even beat Shrek 1, which brought in $484,409,218.

🙏Looking back at the box office numbers for each entry in the Shrek series, man, that figure Shrek 2 hit—$919,838,758—is just mind-blowing! Seriously, what an incredible run for a movie.

I’m still holding out hope that Shrek 4 shows up on a decent DivX rip soon so I can just grab it online and watch, though let’s be real, I’ll probably just jump straight to downloading the 720p HD version immediately. DivX has been such a lifesaver over the years, but it’s definitely fading into history, isn't it? Still, thanks for the good times, DivX! 😁

I caught the 3D version at the theater, and honestly, seeing myself there at 20 years old alongside a bunch of ten-year-olds who were absolutely thrilled... it was something else. It’s definitely more gripping and funnier than Shrek the Third, though let's be real, it can't touch the first two since they've already achieved legendary status...
The chubby little cat was easily my favorite part, and I have to admit, a few of those scenes actually had me laughing out loud.

It wasn't bad! I definitely got a good laugh out of it, though I have to admit the topic feels a little bit played out... I feel like I've seen this one before...🤷
but honestly, nothing can quite top the original first film 😂

Since we’re already talking about the GOAT moments in the Shrek movies, I just have to share my personal favorites:

Shrek 1 - that first moment when Shrek and Donkey meet, especially when Donkey won't stop chirping away while Shrek just sits there looking completely miserable.... 🤣

Shrek 1 - when Shrek and Donkey finally roll into Duloc, and then Donkey starts trying to belt out a tune again, only for Shrek to whip around and go, "What did I say about the singing?" 🤣

Shrek 1 - right as they're trekking toward the castle to rescue Fiona, Donkey turns to Shrek and asks if he was the one who just farted, and Shrek just hits him with, "If that had been me, you'd be dead right now." 😂

Shrek 2 - when Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey are heading to Far Far Away and Donkey keeps being a total pest, constantly asking if they've arrived yet 😂 and then that part where he suddenly passes out and Shrek and Fiona both jump out of their skins! 🙏

...man, there are seriously so many more. 👍

So, I actually watched this like ten days ago, but honestly, I just couldn't be bothered to sit down and write anything right away, and then it kind of slipped my mind, so here I am finally sharing my actual thoughts now that they've had some time to settle.

It’s not bad, and honestly, it's way better than the third one.

The whole concept is really well thought out and executed, and I had a blast watching it, but I can't help feeling like Shrek is starting to feel a little bit played out as a character, or maybe the studio just didn't have enough creative spark left to pull off a massive hit like Toy Story 3 did?

I'm not saying Shrek Forever After is garbage—not at all, it's actually pretty good and I genuinely enjoyed the ride. The plot is solid, though it could've used a little more punch (even if it does lean a bit into that Back to the Future vibe), but the setup is there, so there's definitely some excitement to hold onto.
I walked away feeling pretty satisfied, especially since the third movie was such a letdown, so this felt like a real return to form, even if I've got a few gripes. For instance, what were they thinking with the Cat? They totally missed an opportunity there; I just wasn't feeling his direction at all. I get that it fits the specific plot needs, but I just can't wrap my head around him being this chubby, non-combative version of himself. Plus, I was expecting those witches to cause way more chaos for Shrek than they actually did, and the main villain felt a little underwhelming too, but overall, it's fine.

My rating: 4/10

Haven't caught it yet, but I'm definitely planning to hit up AMC this week. Looks pretty solid so far—we'll see how it actually plays out...

So, I finally sat down and rewatched it yesterday in 720p HD, and man, I have to say, my whole perspective on it has totally shifted.

It’s honestly night and day compared to the last time I saw it; that blurry, low-res crap I watched before just completely sucked the soul out of the movie, but once you see it in decent quality like this S4 version, everything just clicks and feels awesome.

My take on the actual value/quality of the film: 5/10
My rating for it as an animated flick: 9/10
