I think I had an Arctic cooler—something with "Arctic" in the name—or something like that. It was some German brand, if I recall correctly, and it kept my AMD chip pretty chilled. It was affordable, quiet, and took maybe two minutes to install. Honestly, it was quite cheap too (I don't think it cost more than $67...). I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised by how well it worked.
Actually, let me be more specific: it was an Arctic Freezer 13.
Now, look, I’m no expert, and there might be better options out there, but I remember it being very budget-friendly and surprisingly effective. The only issue was that the sticker in the middle peeled off after a year or so; I just pulled it off and it continued to run quietly.
Still, it might be better to get advice from someone who actually knows their stuff.

@wiredotter14: You're probably looking at an upgrade because the stock fan is driving you crazy with the noise, or maybe you've noticed your CPU temperatures hitting levels that just don't feel right at base clock speeds. If you happen to be running one of those FX processors paired with a motherboard that has a bit of a weaker VRM setup, wouldn't it make sense to grab a top-down cooler? Something like that Arctic model mentioned above could really help out by blowing air directly over the VRM components to keep everything stable.

I remember being all set to grab that Lc Power LC-CC-95 myself, but it was out of stock everywhere, so I ended up looking at the Alpine instead. It felt like everyone on the forums was constantly raving about how much of a steal the LC 95 was, especially considering the price point wasn't even that bad. 👍

No, definitely not any of those,😁 especially that pathetic Spire for that kind of money. It's an overpriced piece of junk that's below average quality, and it comes with a cheap 9cm fan.

Besides, even though it has three heat pipes, that Contact 9 isn't anything special either, plus it relies on another cheap fan that won't last very long. Both the Spire and the Contact 9 suffer from the same practical flaw. For the AMD Socket, they use a clip design that attaches to the default plastic, which is pretty poorly and flimsy engineered. That kind of system requires you to apply a bit of force—basically forcing it—so if someone doesn't have a feel for it, there could be issues. Simply put, it's cheap with bad design, or total garbage compared to the Arctic solution, which doesn't require even a hint of force or pressure during setup. The old star Spira Coolgate 2011 has an almost identical installation system on the AMD socket. I used that one for about five years, and you do have to be careful when installing it. You shouldn't apply too much pressure to the clip, as it sits a bit awkwardly on the default AMD plastic CPU cooler mount. As a CPU cooler, the star Spira Coolgate 2011 is great, but the installation process is a major downside.

Regarding a more affordable CPU cooler, I would recommend the Arctic Freezer 7 x available here. I picked that cooler up on sale last year for $33. The current price is what it is, but again, you're getting a significantly better fan and a superior design, which means a very easy installation.

In terms of value, the only thing where "you get what you pay for" applies is the Lc Power LC-CC-95. Installation on the AMD socket is practically almost identical to the Arctic CPU cooler. If I were buying one right now, I'd go with the aforementioned Arctic model again.🍿

He doesn't really need anything high-end for what he's doing; my own cooler is linked right here at $23 and it gets the job done just fine,
Arctic Freezer 7 x wasn't even in stock when I checked Best Buy yesterday, and honestly, I didn't bother looking further since the guy didn't even mention which processor he's running.

Honestly, let him buy whatever he wants—provided it actually fits in his case. A cooler isn't like a GPU that’s going to become obsolete next year; it's a solid investment that can easily move right into a brand-new build later on. If he's looking for the best options for $67, I'd say sticking with the Freezer 33 or Freezer 34 would be his best bet if they're currently in stock.

So, I just picked up an Alpine 64GT, and honestly, it’s a solid deal for the price $13. It’s got everything I need, and I couldn't be happier with the choice.
