Honestly, if you had spent just a third of the energy you used on this explanation on your initial post, the thread would still be standing.
I can see you've gathered your arguments and connections, though—maybe try again with a fresh opening message.

Those extra sentences are a textbook example of turning a discussion into a personal attack (basically trolling).
Avoid doing that, and I'll have no problem penalizing the other person if they start provoking you.
When two people start bickering like this, they both end up getting a cooling-off period.
It takes two to tango.

The comment about "two days ago" is particularly hilarious to me.
Do you really think I live on this forum?

p.s. It’s honestly great seeing how folks react when they get hit with the exact same linguistic patterns they use themselves.

Bringing a debate down to personal attacks is an ad hominem fallacy, which—as anyone who’s read a book on logic or philosophy knows—is a total dealbreaker in any serious discussion...

Trolling is a completely different beast...

As is cherry-picking someone’s words out of context or responding to only one tiny fragment of a post...

Honestly, I shorten my quotes almost every single time.
You could have done the exact same thing just now; you completely ignored the part where I was actually addressing Guggenheim.
Not every single question deserves a response, you know.

Since you're so eager to jump in, which specific question were you even trying to answer? Were you just looking to feed into 7nationarmy's provocations?
Look, you don't *have* to reply, but next time, maybe take a deep breath before you start engaging with the trolls and the constant baiting.

I ended up picking up a few bans over on Reddit. I still vividly remember the reasoning behind one of them: apparently, I wasn't allowed to bring everyone else down with my depressing commentary (admittedly, I’m exaggerating a bit since I'm writing this from memory, but that was the gist of it). After that, I took a moment for some deep, internal soul-searching and realized the moderator actually had a point. So, now, no matter how bleak my comments might get, I make sure to tack on a smiley face 👍 at the end, and everything has been smooth sailing. Those bans are ancient history. Isn't that what compromise is all about, anyway?👍

P.S.: Just to clear up any confusion, the "terrifying" moderator in question was Sam Green73.👍

Man, Sam Green73 is the real deal. 🙏

It’s not just them—I mean, Edges, Strilet, and Charles Fox10 aren't exactly saints either.
Moderation has gone completely off the rails lately—honestly, though, maybe it’s actually at its best in five years? Who knows. 👍

I mentioned Burdus—not the first time, not the last... ☕

Nothing flagged so far. Maybe next time 🤷

But now I’ve got one moderator saying everything is fine, while another decides it isn't and hands me a ban... 😕

What's the actual criteria here? One says yes, the other says no... 🤷

It just seems like a total judgment call by the mods, right? You can see it clearly from those two comments by two different guys. I guess we have to wait for some higher authority to step in and settle the score. But honestly, if you want to dodge a strike, isn't it better to just stay away from nicknames or twisting names entirely? Doesn't matter how "mild" the insult is intended to be, right?

Look, the rules explicitly forbid malicious caricatures of names, plain and simple. Some people argue this doesn't happen often enough, but when you look at certain threads, it’s obvious how those nicknames are used as weapons rather than just casual wordplay. Avoid that kind of discourse whenever possible to stay out of trouble. And honestly, just use the report button; it makes things much easier.

Dear Drew Brooks8,

You have received a warning on Reddit.

Reason:
-------
Insulting other users..🤦

Where did I tell Tipi it was a disgrace?
Why are you putting words in my mouth?
Get it together and stop acting like some kind of "moral authority" here.
I told him the exact same thing you did:
That Skopje isn't some major Albanian city!

@shree_kali

This is the second time. Read the chronological posts before this one—the ones that just got deleted because that user was calling me and my honesty slurs... there is absolutely no "insulting users" happening here!
It’s just a reaction to repeated insinuations and lies!

And if you're retaliating 😉just because I reported your trolling post about Mexico and then you deleted it, fine—at least issue a formal strike...😉

What ambermason16 said is just plain shameful...
...and here I was thinking they were a decent person:

Look, I’m sorry, but it’s not the same thing—calling Franjo Harmon a "Krivouksić" or labeling Mason as "Burdus." I think you know perfectly well there's a difference. If someone thinks Mason is a liar or a fraud, hey, that's their right... But if we start criminalizing speech like that, we're basically inviting thought crime back into the country—and nobody actually wants that, right?

We've been dragging Mason through the mud for years with every insult in the book, but that’s not quite the same as calling a crooked crypto-fascist a "Krivouksić."
It's ridiculous—honestly, it's pathetic.

Well, if you ask me, there’s a massive difference here, and I’m not seeing how anyone could argue otherwise.
One guy is gone, nothing left but a fading memory and some old stories, while the other is still very much alive, walking free, and fully capable of standing up for himself or filing a lawsuit if he feels like it...

Hmm, but rules aren't usually written based on whether someone can fight back or not... right??

I think the rules state it pretty clearly: twisting someone's name just to insult them is against the rules, regardless of whether that person can defend themselves or not. In this case, using Krivouksić and Burdus with capital letters makes it obvious the intent was to use them as names... calling someone "thief Sanders" doesn't fall under this rule, but using "Ivo Sanders" in a twisted way does. Same goes for "liar Mason"—that's one thing, but "Mason Burdus" is definitely an insult.

Now the big question is, is "Krivouksić" an insult? Is it written that way to be mean? And is "Burdus" an insult? Is it used in an insulting context? (Personally, I think it is.)

Article 5, Section 1 of the Politics subforum rules applies to using derogatory nicknames for both forum members and third parties. So, from here on out, we won't tolerate malicious name-twisting like: Sranjo (Harmon), Kradimir (Čačić), Smranader (Ivo), and things like that. Maliciously twisting members' usernames will also be sanctioned as insults.

That's the exact wording of the rule... seems pretty clear and straightforward to me, don't you think?

Even in the examples provided, both Sanders and Čačić are alive and able to defend themselves or sue, yet twisting their names into Smranader and Kradimir is still punishable.

Unofficially: go crawl back to mommy... into the nursery (yeah, yeah, Scot, Tyn, laugh it up.. hairless chest types: 😁)

Officially: my reading is exactly what it should be. My opinions and conclusions—as they are for everyone, including certain users here 😉—must remain objective, even when dealing with nothing but relentless trolls. You received the most basic warning possible. It was for the rude tone in your post. I explicitly stated that in the post itself. Good grief, how much free time do you actually have to go on the offensive over such nonsense?

And let's get one thing straight right now (because I know exactly what's coming): if you start posting successive comments spaced closer together than a user can physically type them (I think the limit is 90 minutes), I will merge them for you from six feet under (if I haven't kicked you by then)... so hold your breath until you turn blue.

As for the bolded part, I’d write something, but I honestly can't stop laughing.🤣

Shree, you aren't even on the chat. Seriously, get it together and stop bringing my mother into this for no damn reason.☕Tasteless and low-class.
Who exactly gave you the authority to appoint yourself moderator?🤦
Official statement: my reading of the situation is exactly where it needs to be. As for my opinions and conclusions? Well, they're pretty much in line with everyone else—and some of the usual suspects on Reddit, too. 😉 You have to stay objective, even when you're being swarmed by relentless trolls who just won't quit. You took that one. Just your standard, run-of-the-mill warning.. Watch your tone in that post. It’s getting a bit out of line. That’s exactly what I said right in my post. My god, how much free time do you actually have to go on the offensive over something this stupid?

I just got flagged. A warning card for insulting other users on Reddit. Unbelievable.
I totally copy-pasted him!
And don't even get me started on the tone! You totally made that up. Honestly, it’s hilarious how much drama people would stir up on Reddit over something as trivial as weight.🤣

Look, this is actual politics, not one of those TV soap operas you’re used to obsessively blogging about.

If there was any insulting language used, highlight where I'm being insulting—if that kind of thing actually exists. Use red for those parts, not some cowardly, insecure yellow.😉

Was it an insult or not?🤷
And just so we’re clear from the jump—because I already know how this goes: if you start dropping posts one after another faster than the Reddit cooldown allows (what, 90 minutes?), I’m going to stitch them all together. Even if you try to bury them, I’ll dig them up from the grave while I'm away. So, you might want to hold your breath before you drown.

I wanted to say something about Boldano, but honestly? I can't stop laughing.🤣

Look, from now on, if I report you for trolling—which is basically all you ever do in those PDF threads where you play moderator—don't bother coming after me. Or, more accurately: don't try to lean on me.Check your DMs.!

You’re totally abusing your "position," honey. Honestly, it’s not the end of the world if someone reports your post, even if you are a moderator... don't let it get to you.

By the way, isn't the rule on this site that we have to write in English? So, that's another strike against you😉if we're actually aiming for some objectivity here!🙂

You all might want to clean yourselves up and start praying that we don't see any more cartoonish nonsense coming our way, because if things go south, capital is going to be flying out the window fast.
Look, you’re all seasoned veterans on this site, so honestly, you really have no excuse for acting this immature.

What is with that attitude from hollowtrucker77? I haven't insulted anyone.🤷 I’m asking a legitimate question—where exactly is the insult in this post? If there is one, why hasn't a moderator issued a strike yet?🤷

I’m not bringing anyone's family into this 🤷, I’m not trolling. We’re all just users here. Just be objective and issue the bans properly.

That’s not really an argument—if we’re going by that logic, anyone could step up for Franjo Harmon, whether it's his spouse or his descendants.
Besides, we could just swap Mason for Marshall, since people use the same level of hatred and the same vocabulary against him. He can't sue either.

Actually, I want to touch on this whole rule about twisting names...
...I think it's completely misguided and counterproductive—not to mention just plain stupid.
Since the dawn of time—back to ancient Greece and Rome—distorting and caricaturing names has been a staple of political warfare. Trying to ban it just goes against how humans communicate; it's unnatural, and ultimately, it just guts the conversation.
Not to mention what this does to political satire, which—unfortunately—is already becoming a rare sight on this forum.
It feels to me like someone, acting out of shortsightedness and ignorance, pushed this through—maybe to appease a few amateurs who couldn't handle being hit back with their own medicine... and in doing so, they've done a massive disservice to the forum.

Twisting someone's name is textbook trolling. It violates basic netiquette and has no place in decent online discourse.
